ArcheAge Chronicles

ArcheAge Chronicles enters Steam Early Access today, November 3, 2026, as a $29.99 buy-to-play action RPG set on Auroria 50 years after the original ArcheAge. It is not a remake and not a classic tab-target MMO. XLGAMES rebuilt the series in Unreal Engine 5 around weapon-driven action combat, marker-light exploration and a shared world you can play solo, with friends or in opt-in PvP.

MetaForge's ArcheAge Chronicles hub has an item database, an interactive map, a skill tree planner and guides to use alongside this overview.

Release Date, Price and Business Model

Early Access opens on Steam on November 3, 2026 at 3:00 PM PT, and XLGAMES expects it to last 9 to 12 months. No full-release date is set, though Q3–Q4 2027 is the reported target for PC and current consoles. PS5 and Xbox Series X|S versions were announced in 2024, but no console Early Access is planned.

The game costs $29.99 (€29.99, ₩36,000) with no subscription and only one edition. Pre-orders include the Dawn Pioneer Set, a cosmetic outfit for one class of your choice; see all outfits in our costumes database. It is claimed once, on one character, and cannot be moved afterwards. Hold the Claim Reward button on the main menu (or hold N), then open the chest from your inventory. The price may rise at full release, and XLGAMES says it will announce any change in advance.

There is no cash shop in Early Access. Producer Yongjin Ham said any later purchases will be limited to expansion content, customisation and quality-of-life items, and promised "no pay-to-win items, ever". That pledge matters because monetisation drew heavy criticism in the original ArcheAge.

Servers

Early Access servers are in São Paulo, Virginia, Oregon, Frankfurt, Singapore, Hong Kong and Seoul. There is no Oceania server. Your server choice is permanent during Early Access: there are no transfers and no cross-server play, so pick one with your whole group.

PC requirements

  • OS: Windows 10 64-bit (minimum) / Windows 11 64-bit (recommended)

  • CPU: Core i5-10400 or Ryzen 5 3600 / Core i7-12700 or Ryzen 7 5700X

  • RAM: 16 GB / 32 GB

  • GPU: RTX 2060 SUPER or RX 6600 (8 GB) / RTX 4060 Ti 16 GB or RX 7700 XT (12 GB)

  • Storage: 100 GB on an SSD (required)

  • Target: 30 FPS at 1080p Low / 60 FPS at 1080p High

Both targets assume upscaling on Quality. The game uses XIGNCODE3 kernel-level anti-cheat. The interface and subtitles support English, Korean and Simplified and Traditional Chinese; voice acting is Korean only for now.

Setting, Story and the Original ArcheAge

A town in Auroria

A pioneer settlement in Auroria. Image source: XLGAMES (ArcheAge Chronicles official Steam page).

Chronicles returns to the continent of Auroria about 50 years after the original game, in what XLGAMES calls the "Age of Pioneers". Auroria was forgotten and has now been rediscovered. You play a member of an established trading company who explores ancient ruins and investigates a catastrophic airship crash, and a cult called Eternity is part of the story. Follow the questlines in our quest database and meet the cast in the NPC database.

Ham has said Chronicles is neither an extension nor a remake but "an entirely fresh story within the familiar world of Auroria", built for veterans and newcomers alike. The biggest changes from the 2013 original:

  • Action combat replaces tab-target. Your weapon defines your skills.

  • A shared world, not a full sandbox. Zones run on channels of about 100 players. Exploration and co-op come before competition.

  • PvP is opt-in. The open faction warfare and pack theft of the original are gone, at least for now.

  • No naval content is confirmed. Sailing and ship combat were signatures of the original. Some players expect them later, but XLGAMES has not announced them.

The original ArcheAge launched in Korea in January 2013 and in the West in September 2014. Its Western servers closed on June 27, 2024.

Don't confuse Chronicles with ArcheAge S: Strait of Freedom. That is a separate, isometric ArcheAge game with naval battles, trade packs and guild wars, and it targets Steam in Q2 2027. In September 2026 XLGAMES moved the ArcheAge IP and ArcheAge S to Align Studio; Chronicles stays with XLGAMES.

Combat, Classes and Skills

Combat is real-time action. You can jump, roll, dash, block and parry, with light and heavy attacks on the mouse buttons and an optional lock-on. Attacks and dodges draw from one stamina bar, so spending all of it on offence leaves you unable to dodge. Red attacks are unblockable. A controller is fully supported, and many demo players found it more comfortable than mouse and keyboard.

Each class carries two weapons and switches between them in combat with Q. Each weapon has its own skills and its own trait tree, which you can plan in our skill tree planner. Every class is tied to one gender in Early Access. Browse every weapon's stats in the weapons database.

Warrior (male at launch)

  • Longsword: parry-and-counter duelist; leap, root and instant stun; optional HP-spending blood path

  • Greatsword: builds Resolve; HP-scaled shield, super armor, freeze, Armor Break

  • Third weapon: Gladius (sword and shield, fire), due in December

Ranger (female at launch)

  • Longbow: ranged kiter; stacks into Rapid Fire and Fire Arrow; Ice Arrow freezes

  • Hatchet: lightning melee with dodges built into skills; parry; Stormsplitter, Overcharge, Shocking Kick

  • Third weapon: Crossbow (planned)

Berserker (male at launch)

  • Axe & Shield: bleed, moving block, Reel In pull, Battlecry heal, Death Ward

  • Warhammer: biggest single hits; burn and shock; Meteor Hammer, Galactic Impact

  • Third weapon: Greatshield (planned)

Mage (female at launch)

  • Elemental Staff: fire and lightning AoE; Retain stores spells; 10 Energy Core stacks unlock Shooting Star

  • Wavesword: melee frost spellblade; Tidal Rend, Thundersnow; Ice Crystal counter stance

  • Third weapon: Vitality Staff (healing, planned)

There is no healer weapon at launch. Only the Longsword and Hatchet can parry. The first gender unlock, a female Warrior, arrives in December alongside the Gladius. XLGAMES says the remaining third weapons and gender options will follow "over time", with every gender lock gone by full release.

Progression

  • Character level gives points across six stats: Strength, Agility, Constitution, Intelligence, Talent and Endurance. One point always buys one stat, and the character screen previews the result before you commit.

  • Weapon traits do not come from levels. Trait points come from Raeven's Coilstones, each guarded by a boss. Trait branches are exclusive, so two players with the same weapon can build it very differently.

  • Max HP grows by offering hidden Nui Tears at Nui Statues.

  • Gear comes from quests, chests, bosses and crafting. Weigh up upgrades with our gear comparison tool and the armor, accessories and Lunastones databases.

  • Most XP comes from quests, discoveries and points of interest, not from killing monsters.

Open World, Life Skills and Housing

Early Access covers three regions: Diamond Shores, Gylden Ruins and Astron Plains. Some Korean material translates the last two as Golden Ruins and Constellation Fields. XLGAMES says the map is about 20 times the size of the demo, with 300 to 400 exploration and collection elements per zone and more than 1,000 in total. The story and quests alone run to more than 30 hours. Track what you have found on our interactive map.

The world uses few quest markers. Quests often start when you stumble onto a place, and some NPCs mark locations on your map when you talk to them. Things worth finding include:

  • Nui Statues: checkpoints, fast travel, max-HP upgrades and where you switch channels

  • Raeven's Coilstones: boss-guarded trait points

  • Hersander's Towers: riddles that ask for an offering found in the zone; solving them gives accessories and unlocks a timed Hereafter Challenge against a stronger version of the zone boss

  • Chests: once per character, so you never race other players; some are hidden behind waterfalls

  • Field bosses and Crimson Rift events: gear, accessories and rare crafting materials; see who drops what in the creatures database

You earn a glider through questing, and XLGAMES has shown underwater exploration. Mounts have not been confirmed.

XLGAMES lists hunting, gathering, farming, crafting, housing and trading as life skills, along with defending trade routes from enemies. The demo had woodcutting, mining, skinning, berry picking and potion cooking. Housing and trade were not in the demo, so Early Access is the first public look at both. Ham said in a July Q&A that housing will not be instanced, and the 2025 reveal described homes that persist across channels and act as social hubs. For the details, see our housing, crafting, recipes, crafting stations, materials, consumables and tools databases.

Zones run on channels of about 100 players. Parties hold up to four, stay together across zones and share quest progress in instanced dungeons. The demo also had larger raid content. Guild and company activities are part of Early Access.

PvP and Endgame

PvP is opt-in, by channel. In a Peace (standard) channel players cannot attack each other. In a Conflict (PvP) channel, anyone outside your party and guild can. The zone, monsters and quests are identical. You switch at a Nui Statue once you leave the first town, and a cooldown stops you escaping mid-fight. Monster kills in PvP channels gave 10 to 15% bonus XP in the demo, while player kills gave no loot, only a kill log and achievements.

There are no sieges, faction wars or scheduled objectives yet. Ham named PvP a major post-launch focus, and an arena/coliseum is planned. Players expect battlegrounds to give PvP longer-term goals.

For PvE, the demo's secret Throne of Hinnon dungeon gave a taste of the harder content. Its key sits on a ledge at the Sunken Ruins, and the sealed door is at the Altar of Seals. Early Access adds dungeons, raids, field bosses and the Hereafter Challenges. The level cap looks high: trailers show monsters up to level 74. XLGAMES has not yet described a long-term endgame loop. Check your progress against the achievements list.

Beginner Tips and Tricks

These tips come from the October demo and the September network test. Early Access may change some details.

  1. Choose your server carefully. It is permanent during Early Access, and you can only play with friends on the same server.

  2. Claim the pre-order outfit on the character you plan to keep. It is a one-time claim and cannot be transferred.

  3. Expect a long first launch. A black screen for 5 to 10 minutes can be normal, so wait before contacting support. Install on an SSD.

  4. Pick a playstyle, not a tier list. No tested tier list exists yet. Try both weapons properly before you reroll, and put your first trait points into the weapon you will use most.

  5. Don't skip the tutorial, and give combat an hour or two. Many demo players said it only clicked after that.

  6. Manage stamina. Keep some in reserve against unfamiliar bosses, and learn which attacks are red unblockables.

  7. Quest and explore instead of grinding. Most XP comes from quests, discoveries and points of interest. Detour for nearby ruins and chests, and talk to NPCs, because some objectives are never marked.

  8. Spend stat points every level, deliberately. Check the preview first. Talent also raises your equipment load, so it matters for heavier gear.

  9. Hunt Coilstones, but don't bang your head on them. If a guarding boss is too hard, come back after more levels and gear.

  10. Collect Nui Tears as you go. Each max-HP upgrade costs more tears than the last.

  11. Group up for field bosses such as the large bear in the starting area, and switch channels if you can't see your friends.

  12. Stay in Peace channels until you are comfortable. The PvP XP bonus applies only to monster kills, so it is small.

  13. Compare gear stats instead of rarity. Check tempering costs and failure penalties before you invest, and don't sell unfamiliar materials early.

  14. Gather along your route instead of making separate trips, and learn cooking and crafting as they unlock.

  15. Tune performance. Players report better results with DLSS on Performance or Balanced, frame generation, medium shadows, and motion blur and camera shake off.

  16. Don't rush. Early Access runs for 9 to 12 months and progress will not carry over from the demo.

Plan your build in the skill tree planner, find Coilstones, Nui Statues and bosses on the interactive map, and check our ArcheAge Chronicles guides as more go live.

What Players and Critics are Saying

Characters gathered in a tavern

Interest is real. The October Steam Next Fest demo ranked 5th among the most-played demos and peaked at about 20,500 concurrent players on its first evening. Ham said "far more of you showed up than we expected." Opinions on the game itself are split.

Praised

  • Exploration, which drew the strongest positive feedback from the June focus test

  • Weapon identity, parries and counters, especially on the Warrior Longsword and Ranger Hatchet

  • A grounded, Western-style world, realistic armour and well-staged Korean voice acting

  • Party-friendly design: shared quest progress and parties that stay together

  • The buy-to-play, no-cash-shop launch

Criticised

  • Some critics found the combat too uneven and not demanding enough, and judged quests and exploration below New World.

  • Demo players reported PvP desync, hit-detection problems, frame drops in crowds, crashes and a memory leak.

  • Feedback says the Mage and Berserker felt rough compared with the Warrior and Ranger, and the Greatsword struggled in PvP.

  • Gender-locked classes, Korean-only voice acting and launching in a crowded week (WoW Forever starts November 5) also drew complaints.

XLGAMES says it has since fixed startup, login and disconnect errors, retuned some weapons, kept dungeon progress through disconnects and added quality-of-life options before launch.

FAQ: Open Questions Answered

These answers reflect what was known at launch, on November 3, 2026.

When will ArcheAge Chronicles fully release, and at what price?

There is no date yet. Early Access is expected to last 9 to 12 months, which points to roughly August to November 2027. Q3–Q4 2027 is the reported target. The Early Access price is $29.99, and XLGAMES says the full-release price may change but will be announced in advance.

When is it coming to consoles?

There is no date. PS5 and Xbox Series X|S versions were announced in 2024, and the PlayStation Store lists the release date as TBD. Early Access is PC-only on Steam, and consoles are reportedly planned alongside the full release.

Can I transfer servers or play across servers?

Not during Early Access. Your server choice is permanent, and friends must be on the same server to play together. XLGAMES said it "may review" transfers later but has made no commitment.

How deep are housing, farming and trade? Can other players raid my trade runs?

All three are in Early Access, but none were in the public demo, so the detail is still thin. Confirmed so far:

  • Housing is not instanced, and homes act as social hubs that persist across channels.

  • Test menus showed crafting stations for player homes.

  • Farming is listed as a life skill.

  • Trade runs cross dangerous ground that XLGAMES says you must defend.

Previews suggest the original game's trade-pack theft has been removed, but XLGAMES has not confirmed that. Crop lists and an auction house have not been detailed.

Will sailing, naval combat or mounts be added?

None have been announced. Chronicles does have a glider and underwater exploration. Some players read the named oceans on the map as a hint that naval content will come later. For now, ship battles and trade packs belong to the separate game ArcheAge S.

Will there be a cash shop, and will it be pay-to-win?

There is no shop in Early Access. Producer Yongjin Ham said later purchases would cover only expansion content, customisation and quality-of-life items, with "no pay-to-win items, ever". He also promised advance notice of a shop's timing and contents.

When do the third weapons and other genders arrive?

The Warrior's Gladius and a female Warrior come in the December update. The Crossbow, Greatshield, Vitality Staff and remaining gender options will follow "over time", with no dates given. XLGAMES says every gender lock will be gone by full release.
