LOTR: Return to Moria

To unlock the Endless Stairs in Return to Moria, you must locate and activate three ancient Dwarf Doors introduced in the Durin’s Folk DLC and Update 6. The first door is accessible through Barazinbar and the Mithril Lode, the second sits inside the Tomb of Kings, and the final one is hidden in Durin’s Forge.

Added in the Durin’s Folk DLC and Update 6

The ability to explore and unlock the Endless Stairs was added alongside the release of the Durin’s Folk DLC and Update 6. This update introduced several new quest objectives, items, and locations that expand the late-game progression.

One of the core new objectives is the discovery of three ancient Dwarf Doors, each holding part of a recipe required to craft the crucial Mirrored Silver. Once assembled, these ingredients allow you to build the Beam Mirror, a device that channels light to reveal and open the sealed entrance to the Endless Stairs.

Emissary

Step 1: Locating the First Dwarf Door at the Endless Stairs

Set a Mapstone in the First Hall

Start by placing a mapstone in the First Hall if you have not already done so. This ensures you have a fast-travel point close to the Emissary and reduces backtracking later in the process. The First Hall acts as your main staging area for most of the quests and interactions later on.

First Hall Map Stone

Travel Through Barazinbar

Go to your nearest mapstone and navigate to Barazinbar, then teleport directly to the Mithril Lode. This is the quickest route to access the region containing the first of the three Dwarf Doors.

Make Your Way to Durin’s Highway

Once you arrive, begin traveling toward Durin’s Highway. The route you take may differ from other players because each world in Return to Moria generates uniquely.

Keep progressing through the tunnels until you reach a long hall that leads to the first sealed Dwarf Door. Interact with this door to officially begin the objective of finding all three.

This first interaction triggers the quest to locate the remaining two doors scattered throughout Moria.

Step 2: Finding the Second Dwarf Door in the Tomb of Kings

Travel to the Tomb of Kings

The next door is located in the Tomb of Kings, one of the most iconic and atmospheric locations in the game. Use your mapstone network to get there as efficiently as possible.

Tomb of Kings

Locating the Door Within the Tomb

Once you enter the tomb complex, follow the path leading deeper into the main burial chamber. As you step into the centerpiece room, take a moment to orient yourself.

The Dwarf Door is situated on the left-hand side of the chamber. It blends naturally into the stone, but its runic design makes it recognizable once you look directly at it.

Interact with this door to obtain the second piece of the Mirrored Silver recipe. With two pieces collected, only one remains before you can begin crafting.

Step 3: Finding the Third Dwarf Door in Durin’s Forge

Enter Durin’s Forge

The final door can be found deep inside Durin’s Forge, a large smithing complex that may already be partially developed if you have built a base in the area. In some cases, player structures may obstruct your view of the door, so you may need to explore carefully.

Durin's Forge Base

How to Reach the Door

Follow these steps to locate the door reliably:

  1. Descend the main stairs to the lowest section of Durin’s Forge.
  2. Continue straight past the two stone pillars positioned at the bottom.
  3. Turn left immediately after passing the pillars.
  4. Break through the rubble and stone barriers with your pickaxe to reveal a hidden section of the wall.

Once the debris is cleared, the final Dwarf Door becomes visible. Interact with it to obtain the last piece of the Mirrored Silver recipe. With all three doors activated, you now have everything needed to move on to crafting.

Step 4: Crafting Mirrored Silver for the Beam Mirror

Required Materials

To progress toward unlocking the Endless Stairs, you’ll need to craft Mirrored Silver. Each piece requires:

  • Silver Ingots
  • Pumice (3 pieces per craft)

You will need a total of three Mirrored Silver to build the Beam Mirror.

Mirrored Silver materials

Finding Pumice in the Redhorn Lode

To gather enough pumice, travel back to Barazinbar and once again teleport to the Mithril Lode. From there, head into the Redhorn Lode, which is densely populated with pumice nodes.

Redhorn Lode

These nodes appear as rock piles containing mixed stone and ore. They look slightly different from standard ore clusters due to their layered appearance. Pumice drops are not guaranteed, but nodes typically yield 1 to 2 pieces. Because the Redhorn Lode contains many of these nodes, you should be able to gather the required amount by exploring the area thoroughly.

Once you have collected enough pumice and silver, return to your base, head to your forge, and craft the three pieces of Mirrored Silver.

Step 5: Gathering Additional Beam Mirror Materials

In addition to Mirrored Silver, the Beam Mirror requires:

  • 20 Steel Ingots
  • 2 Sapphire
Beam Mirror recipe

If you do not already have these materials, gather them before moving on. Sapphires are typically found in gemstones clusters throughout the deeper levels of Moria, while steel can be produced at your forge.

Step 6: Building and Activating the Beam Mirror

Return to the Endless Stairs Entrance

Teleport back to the mapstone you previously set at Durin’s Highway, near the sealed Endless Stairs entrance. Before leaving, make sure to repair your gear and carry supplies, as the next part of the questline may lead you into extended exploration.

Durin's Highway

Construct the Beam Mirror

Place the Beam Mirror in the center of the floor, facing the ancient door. Ensure it is aligned so that its beam can project directly toward the sealed entrance.

Beam Mirror

Adjust and Activate It

Rotate the Beam Mirror until the focused light shines precisely onto the Dwarf Door. Once the beam is properly aligned, the ancient mechanisms will recognize the activation.

Finally, sing to the door to complete the unlocking ritual.

Opening the door

The entrance to the Endless Stairs will open, allowing you to continue your journey. When you are ready, return to the Emissary to receive the next objective in the Durin’s Folk questline.
