This Summer is full of fantastic releases, but the list of New Games in August 2025 is dominated by one major theme: Nostalgia. While we expect to see some brand new titles like Lost Soul Aside, get ready to also revisit some classics, because this month is shaping up to be a massive trip down memory lane!

Metal Gear Solid fans will get MSG Delta: Snake Eater – a complete Unreal Engine 5 remake of the 2004 classic, Gears of War are bringing us a full remaster of the original 2006 title with updated graphics and systems and Mafia fans will explore the origins of the Sicilian Mafia in a long-awaited prequel to the acclaimed franchise.

Here’s our list of the all the hot games to explore this month! August 5 – Demon Slayer – Kimetsu no Yaiba – The Hinokami Chronicles 2

PC, PS5, PS4, Xbox, Switch

The sequel to the hit arena fighter expands its narrative to cover later arcs of the anime, such as the Swordsmith Village Arc. It introduces new gameplay mechanics like a “Gear System” for character customization, a “Training Paths” mode to challenge the Hashiras, and powerful “Dual Ultimates” for specific character pairings.

August 7 – 1000 Deaths

PC, PS5

A psychedelic 3D platformer where players make choices that dramatically alter the story, levels, and mechanics. The narrative follows four unique alien characters from birth to death, exploring their all-too-human struggles while navigating surreal, gravity-bending worlds.

August 7 – Gradius Origins

PC, PS5, Xbox, Switch

This collection brings together 17 versions of six classic arcade shoot ’em ups: Gradius, Salamander, Life Force, Gradius II, Gradius III, and Salamander 2. It features modern quality-of-life additions like a rewind function, save anywhere, and an invincible mode to make the notoriously difficult series more accessible.

August 7 – Static Dread: The Lighthouse

PC

A tense horror game inspired by the works of Lovecraft and the gameplay of Papers, Please. Players must manage a lighthouse, guiding ships to safety while dealing with strange phenomena, unsettling visitors, and their own dwindling sanity as a monstrous disaster looms.

August 7 – The House of the Dead 2: Remake

PC, Switch

A full remake of the classic 1998 light-gun rail shooter. Featuring modern graphics and remastered audio, players take on the role of AMS agents fighting through hordes of undead creatures in a story-driven campaign with branching paths and multiple endings.

August 7 – Hidden Memories of The Gardens Between

Steam VR, Meta Quest

An expanded VR version and sequel to the acclaimed puzzle adventure game, The Gardens Between. Set 20 years after the original, players will once again warp time to solve puzzles across beautiful, surreal garden islands to uncover a story about friendship and memory.

August 8 – Mafia: The Old Country

PC, PS5, Xbox

A prequel to the acclaimed crime saga, this third-person action-adventure game explores the origins of the Sicilian Mafia in the early 1900s. Players assume the role of Enzo Favara, fighting for survival and to prove his worth to the Torrisi crime family in a gritty, period-authentic underworld.

August 12 – Senua’s Saga: Hellblade II coming to PS5

PS5

The critically acclaimed action-adventure game makes its debut on PlayStation 5. This enhanced edition brings Senua’s brutal journey through the myth and torment of Viking Iceland to the platform with optimizations for the PS5 and PS5 Pro, alongside new features that will also be patched into the Xbox and PC versions.

August 12 – Echoes of the End

PC, PS5, Xbox

A narrative-driven action-adventure game set in a unique fantasy world inspired by the landscapes of Iceland. You play as Ryn, a skilled warrior who can manipulate and destroy matter, as she embarks on a journey to save her brother and uncover the secrets of her world.

August 12 – Fallen City Brawl

PC, PS5, PS4, Xbox, Switch

Another entry on the New Games of August 2025 list is a modern take on classic arcade beat ’em ups from the ’80s and ’90s. With a gritty pixel-art style, you choose from four playable characters to brawl your way through the streets of Fallen City, either solo or with a friend in local co-op.

August 14 – Drag x Drive

Switch 2

A unique 3v3 PvP sports game designed exclusively for the Nintendo Switch 2. Players control wheelchair athletes in a basketball-like competition, utilizing the new Joy-Con 2’s mouse-style controls to intuitively steer, accelerate, and make plays in a fast-paced arena.

August 14 – Madden NFL 26

PC, PS5, Xbox, Switch 2

The latest installment in the long-running American football simulation series. This entry features overhauled player movement, more authentic positional roles on modernized depth charts, and dynamic weather systems that impact gameplay. The game also marks the franchise’s return to a Nintendo console for the first time in over a decade.

August 14 – Ovis Loop

PC

A fast-paced, action-roguelite where you play as a cybernetic sheep with a giant sword fighting off waves of robotic wolves. The core gameplay revolves around hacking skills from fallen enemies and modifying them to create a unique combat style in a dark, sci-fi world.

August 19 – Sword of the Sea

PC, PS5

An atmospheric adventure from the creative director of Journey and Abzû. Players control the Wraith, surfing across vast, undulating sand dunes on a mystical Hoversword to restore a lost ocean. The gameplay focuses on fluid, high-speed movement inspired by skateboarding and snowboarding, set to a score by composer Austin Wintory.

August 19 – Delta Force coming to Consoles

Xbox, PS5 (already available on PC and mobile)

The free-to-play shooter Delta Force lands on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X and S on August 19th. The console version includes the Warfare (large scale) and Operations (more tactical) modes, plus the Black Hawk Down campaign as a free DLC. While it’s already out on PC and mobile, console players can finally get in on the action this month.

August 21 – Discounty

PC, PS5, PS4, Xbox, Switch

A cozy management simulation RPG where players take over a small-town discount supermarket. The gameplay loop involves designing the shop layout, managing stock, striking trade deals with local producers, and building relationships with the quirky townsfolk to uncover community secrets and grow a business empire.

August 22 – Dying Light: The Beast

PC, PS5, Xbox

A new standalone chapter in the acclaimed first-person zombie survival series. Set in the rural and dangerous Castor Woods, players once again utilize signature parkour skills and a 4×4 vehicle to explore an open world overrun by the infected. The narrative focuses on confronting a narcissistic sociopath known as the Baron who is experimenting on humans.

August 25 – Particle Hearts

PC, PS5, Xbox, Switch

An atmospheric puzzle game set in a world made entirely of particles. Players must use special abilities to manipulate these particles to solve puzzles, avoid enemies, and piece together the story of a beautiful but sinister land.

August 26 – Gears of War: Reloaded

PC, PS5, Xbox

A full remaster of the original 2006 cover shooter, marking the franchise’s first-ever release on a PlayStation platform. This version features a 4K resolution campaign running at 60 frames-per-second, with multiplayer modes supporting up to 120 frames-per-second, bringing the classic title up to modern technical standards.

August 26 – Helldivers 2 coming to Xbox

Xbox

The massively popular cooperative third-person shooter arrives on Xbox consoles. Players enlist as elite soldiers fighting for freedom across a hostile galaxy, calling down powerful stratagems to combat alien threats. The Xbox launch will bring a new audience into the ongoing Galactic War, though it has been confirmed it will not be available on Game Pass at launch.

August 27 – STORY OF SEASONS: Grand Bazaar

PC, Switch 2, Switch

A full remake of the 2008 Nintendo DS farming simulation game. Players are tasked with revitalizing Zephyr Town’s once-famous bazaar by growing crops, raising animals, and selling goods at their own market stall. This version features completely new visuals, expanded story, new characters, and unique traversal mechanics like a glider.

August 28 – Kirby and the Forgotten Land + Star Crossed World

Switch 2

An enhanced edition of the acclaimed 3D platformer for the new Nintendo Switch 2 console. This version includes the full original game with improved resolution and frame rates, alongside a brand-new story expansion titled “Star-Crossed World,” where Kirby must use his abilities to clear a path through uncharted territory.

August 28 – Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater

PC, PS5, Xbox

A faithful remake of the iconic 2004 stealth-action game, rebuilt from the ground up in Unreal Engine 5. The game retains the original story and voice performances while introducing modern graphics, a new third-person camera option, and a battle damage system where injuries persist on Snake’s character model.

August 28 – Shinobi: Art of Vengeance

PC, PS5, PS4, Xbox, Switch

The return of the classic SEGA franchise in a new 2D action platformer with a distinct hand-drawn art style from the developers of Streets of Rage 4. Players control ninja Joe Musashi, utilizing a deep arsenal of sword combos, ranged kunai, and mystical Ninpo arts to seek vengeance against the evil ENE Corporation.

August 28 – The Knightling

PC, PS5, Xbox, Switch

A fantasy action-adventure game where you play as a “Knightling,” an aspiring hero trying to find your missing mentor. The gameplay is a mix of combat, platforming, and exploration in a colorful, semi-open world, with a unique mechanic that lets you use your magical shield to surf and slide through the environment.

August 28 – Super Robot Wars Y

PC, PS5, Switch

The latest entry in the long-running tactical RPG series. This game brings together mechs and pilots from a huge variety of different anime series, including new additions like Gundam: The Witch from Mercury and SSSS.DYNAZENON, to battle in a massive crossover storyline.

August 29 – Lost Soul Aside

PC, PS5

A stylish, fast-paced single-player action RPG that began as a solo development project. Players embark on an epic journey to save humanity from dimensional invaders, chaining together lightning-fast combos and upgrading weapons to take on formidable enemies and colossal bosses in dynamic combat. This is our last but definitely not the least anticipated entry to the New Games of August 2025 list!
