To get a bigger inventory and expand your Backpack Size in Tales of the Shire, you need to level up your rank in the Foraging Club. Here are the quick steps to get more backpack space:
- Unlock Clubs: Progress through the main story until you help establish the village Clubs in Bywater.
- Join the Foraging Club: The Foraging Club is led by Delphinium Brandybuck. You join automatically when the clubs are formed.
- Complete Foraging Tasks: Go to the notice board in the Ivy Bush Inn and pick up tasks for the Foraging Club. These usually involve collecting specific mushrooms, berries, or other items.
- Level Up Your Rank: Completing these tasks increases your Foraging Club rank. Backpack expansions are rewarded at certain ranks. The first backpack upgrade comes after reaching Level 3.

What Are Clubs in Tales of the Shire?
Clubs are a key feature in Bywater that you will unlock by progressing through the main story. There are four clubs: Gardening, Fishing, Cooking, and Foraging. Each club has a leader and offers tasks that you can complete to increase your rank. Leveling up your rank in these clubs is the primary way to unlock new tools, recipes, and crucial quality-of-life upgrades, like a backpack expansion.
How to Get Backpack Upgrades from the Foraging Club
Getting more backpack space is one of the most important upgrades in the early game, and it is tied directly to the Foraging Club, which is led by Delphinium Brandybuck. To increase your rank, you must complete tasks from the club notice board inside the Ivy Bush Inn. These tasks will ask you to collect and turn in various foraged goods. The first reward, at Level 2, is the Lantern. The first Backpack Expansion, which adds 5 extra inventory slots, is the reward for reaching Foraging Club Level 3. Continuing to level up will grant further backpack upgrades.
