Tales of the Shire

There are a few things you can do with Windfall Wood in tales of the shire, here are some options:

  1. Trade Windfall Wood to Willow Took for your choice of 3 Chestnuts, 3 Hazelnuts, or 3 Walnuts. These Nuts can be used for cooking and can also be sold for more Coin than the Wood itself, depending on the Season.
  2. Sell Windfall Wood to any trader for 20 Coin. This is a great option to quickly clear the Wood out of your inventory while making some quick cash.
  3. Discard Windfall Wood to immediately reclaim precious backpack space by Trashing it. This might not be the most frugal option but it’s definitely the quickest.

We wanted to quickly present you with the answer – the choice is yours on what to do with Windfall Wood in Tales of the Shire and we discuss each option and the motivation behind them further in this guide.

What is Windfall Wood in Tales of the Shire, and Why is it Special?

Windfall Wood is a simple gatherable resource found on the ground in The Forest, near where Willow and Delphinium live. What makes it special is that it’s often one of the first items you’ll acquire that cannot be stored in your pantry, (the other one being Delphinium’s Flower) leaving you to wonder what to do with it. This wood is not particularly rare and can be easily found if you return to The Forest regularly, so there’s little reason to hold onto it for long periods.

How to Make the Most of Your Wood

Since you can’t store it in the pantry, you’ll want to use Windfall Wood to avoid keeping it in your backpack. Here are the best approaches depending on your playstyle:

  • The Best Trade-Up: For maximum profit, trade your wood for nuts that are out-of-season. For example, in Summer, one piece of Windfall Wood (sells for 20 coin) can be traded for three Chestnuts (sell for 10 coin each). This turns your 20-coin item into 30 coins’ worth of goods.
  • The Patient Hobbit: A great long-term strategy is to trade the wood for any nuts and store them in your pantry. These can be used for cooking later or sold in a large pile when the season is right. Since all nuts are most scarce in Spring, stockpile them and sell them in bulk for a tidy profit.
  • The Hobbit in a Hurry: If you need coin quickly and don’t want to make the trip to Willow, simply sell the Windfall Wood to any trader. You’ll still get a fair price and save yourself some travel time.
  • The Cozy Hobbit: Finally, remember this is a chill, cozy game. If managing another item is more stress than it’s worth, feel free to trash it from your inventory or simply not pick it up at all. Play in the way that is most relaxing for you!

A Quick Note on Willow’s Quest

Early in the game, Willow will ask you to find 3 pieces of Windfall Wood as a condition for letting her daughter, Daisy, join the Foraging Club. It is crucial to know that you cannot turn in wood you already have in your inventory. Once you accept the quest, you will be required to go and pick up three specific pieces scattered nearby in The Forest. So, there is absolutely no benefit to hoarding Windfall Wood for this quest.
