Where Winds Meet

Here is our beginners guide on the Fan and Umbrella DPS combo after playing it in China. In this guide we will be covering the following points:

  • Why you wanna go Fan/Umbrella.,
  • How to get the Fan/Umbrella DPS combo,
  • Internal Arts/Talents,
  • Rotations

Why you Want to go Fan & Umbrella

Currently this is one of the most played builds in China in PVE and in PVP. It can be played as a more ranged DPS and melee DPS. The kit itself is extremely fun to play, You turn into Yasuo from LoL (windwall, tornado knock-ups and attack combo’s midair) combined with an evil Mary Poppins with a AK47 build into the umbrella.

Furthermore it allows to only level up only 2 masteries instead of multiple and thus saving up some gold. Same goes for the talents.

How to get the Fan Umbrella DPS Combo

We have no option to start with both weapons as we will always start with nameless sword and spear. Around 5 mins into the game you should meet the oddity vendor. He will give you a quest to shoot down a beehive. Once completed you will have a choice to choose a new mastery. Here you NEED to select the Umbrella.

From here on out we going to need level 8 to pick up the fan. Make sure to go to the fort south of the oddity vendor to pick up the execute ability. Then continue MSQ until lvl 8. This should open up the camouflage quest in the middle of the Where Winds Meet map, it can be found on the picture attached. When completed that quest you will learn camouflage and you will receive a key (sword). This we need to open up the sect hideout and steal the DPS fan mastery.

Now make your way to the hideout that is located on the other picture attached, note this is in the undiscovered zone in the north. Go to the shore and there you will find the entrance to the cave. Enter the cave with the key you got and here you will need to stealth your way to the master.

My tip is to drop down in the water and climb your way up on the trees, you should be able to sneak by the master and his disciples and reach the spot to learn the fan. Now from here you want to go back and find all the chests in that area while not getting caught in order to unlock one of the needed talents. Now you setup to start using fan and umbrella.

Internal Arts/Talents

As we already picked up the first talent in the cave we will use that one immediately.

So apply the Flying Gourds Internal ArtThis will give your Mountain Sky (the knock up) ability an extra charge but the cooldown will increase by 3 seconds. We now need to get the second one. The second one will be in the north of the zone where you will need to clear an outpost. Do this with friends is my advice. But you can also do it solo.

This will give you the Spring Thunder Internal Art:Because you are moving around so much every 12m travelled it will give you 3 stacks of Spring Thunder for 12 seconds. Each heavy attack or mid-air attack will get a damage boost for each stack.

Next challenge is a world boss. You wanna go to the cave where he is hiding which can be found all the way in the south of the region. See the picture below. The cave is full with snakes, however with your umbrella you can use the jump + special attack to glide, glide to the left further into the cave over the snakes. The boss can be found on the picture down below.

Defeating him will you the internal art Star Reacher:Gain additional attack bonus after inflicting airborne on enemies. An amazing passive to pair up with our build. However useless in some boss fights where we cannot knock up the boss. Last internal art to get is Blossom Barrage. This one is quite hard to get. First you need to start this MSQ is Kaifeng in the middle of the city, when you completed the tower part you can then start the side quest (blue book). See also the picture below for reference.

After finishing that quest you will get Blossom Barrage:Which will give your umbrella skill Spring Sorrow(Q-ability) a secondary charge, it will also boost the damage of your projectiles against the target hit by Spring Sorrow and does not stack. Again an amazing passive and absolutely necessary for the build.

Now we do want to pickup the passive Morale Chant as this will be used when swapping out Star Reacher or Flying Gourds. For the Morale Chant passive you can either buy the books from the vendor or buy the bookchests from the menu.

For reference see Ulfs video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VV1YmQ0gG4E. I’m still on the fence for normal gameplay whether I want Morale Chant or Flying Gourds but test it out and see what you like more.

Rotations

I’m going to be short for this one. Paik made an amazing video about it. I love to refer you guys to his video. 1 addition I want to add is: When you are close to breaking stamina, try to use the Umbrella Q ability and have enough stamina. Then use the umbrella projectile attack mid-air and get close up and wait until the timer almost ran out before using the execute to get as much damage in as possible. Here is the rotation and combo video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TEUsdKX27ck
