Brawl Stars

Controller brawlers are experts at slowing enemies down, blocking escape routes, and forcing opponents into bad positions. A great controller doesn’t just win fights, they decide where those fights happen in the first place.

These are the seven best controller brawlers in Brawl Stars, counting down to our number one pick.

What makes a controller

Controller is one of several brawler classes on MetaForge, alongside Damage Dealers, Tanks, Assassins, Marksmen, Support, and Artillery. Their job isn’t necessarily to rack up the most eliminations. It’s to shape the fight before it even starts.

This list ranks controllers on how well their kit locks down space, denies movement, and disrupts the enemy team, not on live win rate. For current competitive standings across the full roster, check our Tier List, since that shifts with every balance update.

The full list, counting down:

  1. Bo
  1. Jessie
  1. Lou
  1. Squeak
  1. Amber
  1. Gene
  1. Mr. P

7. Bo

Bo is one of the most reliable controllers for newer players. His attacks cover a wide area, which makes them surprisingly easy to land, while his mines force enemies to constantly watch where they step.

A well-placed minefield can shut down an entire path or punish anyone who gets too aggressive. If you enjoy planning ahead instead of rushing into every fight, Bo is a great place to start.

6. Jessie

Jessie might not look intimidating at first, but her turret can completely change the pace of a match. Once it’s placed in the right spot, enemies are forced to deal with constant pressure while your team gains control of the objective.

Her bouncing attacks also make it difficult for grouped enemies to stay together for long. Jessie rewards good turret placement more than raw mechanical skill.

5. Lou

Lou wins fights through patience. Every attack slowly freezes opponents, making them easier to eliminate while limiting their ability to escape.

His Super creates an icy area that constantly disrupts enemy movement, turning key objectives into dangerous places for the other team. If you enjoy controlling space instead of chasing eliminations, Lou is an excellent pick.

4. Squeak

Squeak is one of the best area-control brawlers in the entire game. His sticky attacks stay on the battlefield for a short time, forcing enemies to change direction or wait before moving forward.

That constant pressure makes it incredibly difficult for opponents to push through narrow lanes or hold important objectives. A skilled Squeak player can influence the entire map without needing to win every duel.

3. Amber

Amber combines consistent damage with incredible area denial. Her flames constantly pressure opponents, and her Super can cover huge sections of the map with fire.

That makes it extremely difficult for enemies to safely approach objectives or escape a bad situation. Amber rewards players who know how to control space while still dealing nonstop damage, and she currently backs that up with some of the strongest results of any controller in the game.

2. Gene

Gene is one of the most dangerous controllers in the game because of a single ability. His Super, Magic Hand, launches a perfectly timed pull that can instantly isolate an enemy and turn a fair fight into an easy elimination.

On top of that, his attacks spread out over a wide area, letting him pressure opponents safely from a distance. Gene rewards patience, smart positioning, and good decision-making above almost anything else.

1. Mr. P

Mr. P doesn’t overwhelm enemies with huge burst damage. Instead, he wins through constant pressure.

His porters force opponents to waste attacks while giving your team more chances to take control of the map. Over time, that endless pressure becomes incredibly frustrating to deal with, and few controllers are better at wearing down an enemy team over the course of a full match.

That’s exactly why Mr. P takes our top spot.

Best controller by playstyle

  • Just starting out: Bo and Jessie are fantastic, beginner-friendly options.
  • Enjoy locking down objectives and controlling movement: Lou and Squeak are excellent choices.
  • Like making game-changing plays with one perfectly timed ability: Gene is one of the most rewarding brawlers in the game to master.
  • Want the strongest overall controller with map pressure and long-term value: Mr. P is our top recommendation.

FAQ

Is this ranking based on win rate or kit design?

This list ranks controllers on how well their kit locks down space and disrupts the enemy team, not live win-rate data. For current competitive standings across the full roster, check our Tier List.

What makes a brawler a controller in Brawl Stars?

Controller is one of the game’s brawler classes, built around zone control and disruption rather than raw damage or mobility. Their value often shows up in objective control rather than elimination count.

Which controller is best for beginners?

Bo and Jessie are the most forgiving picks on this list. Both have wide-area attacks that don’t require precise aim to land.

Does this ranking change with balance updates?

Yes, controller strength shifts with every patch like any other class. Check our Tier List for how these seven, and the rest of the roster, are performing right now.
