How to Make Olive Oil in Romestead
Olive Oil is one of the most valuable processed resources you can produce in Romestead. Not only is it used in several crafting and cooking recipes, but it’s also one of the most profitable items to sell at the Market once your settlement starts growing.
Producing Olive Oil takes several steps and requires a few different buildings, but once your production chain is up and running, it becomes a reliable source of both crafting materials and passive income. Here’s everything you need to unlock, craft, and profit from Olive Oil in Romestead.
Why Olive Oil Matters
Olive Oil serves two important purposes throughout the game.
First, it’s used as an ingredient in several recipes, making it an important resource as your settlement expands.
Second, it’s one of the best processed goods to sell at the Market. While raw olives have some value, processing them into Olive Paste and eventually Olive Oil increases their worth significantly, making it an excellent way to generate money.
If you’re looking for a steady source of income, Olive Oil production is well worth investing in.

Step 1: Unlock the Dolium
Before you can produce Olive Oil, you’ll first need to unlock the Dolium.
Head to your altar and open the Worship tree.
Look for the unlock related to Olive Oil production and spend a Worship Point to unlock the Dolium building.
If the upgrade isn’t available yet, you’ll need to increase your Worship standing first.
Increase Your Worship Standing
If you’re still working toward the unlock, focus on making farming-related offerings.
Items such as:
- Olives
- Wheat
- Other crop resources
are excellent choices for increasing your standing and unlocking the next stage of progression.
Once you’ve earned enough Worship, you’ll be able to unlock the Dolium.

Step 2: Build the Dolium
After unlocking the recipe, head to your Workshop and select the Dolium.
Before you can place it, you’ll need to gather Clay, which is one of the building’s primary construction materials.
How to Get Clay
Start by crafting several Wooden Buckets.
Once you have them, explore areas near rivers and ponds.
Clay deposits appear as lighter-colored patches of ground close to water.
Stand on a Clay deposit and use your buckets to automatically collect Clay.
Bring the filled buckets back to your settlement, then use the Clay to construct your Dolium.

Step 3: Make Olive Past
With the Dolium built, it’s time to gather the first ingredient.
Olive Oil is produced from Olive Paste, which is made using the Manual Mill.
Although the Manual Mill is commonly used to turn Wheat into Flour, it can also process both Olives and Grapes.
Simply place your Olives into the Manual Mill and begin grinding them.
Once processing is complete, you’ll receive Olive Paste.

Step 4: Add Olive Paste to the Dolium
Take your newly crafted Olive Paste and place it inside the Dolium.
At this point, you’re still missing one important ingredient before Olive Oil can be produced.
You’ll also need Empty Pots.
Step 5: Unlock Empty Pots
Empty Pots are unlocked through Celeste’s Worship tree.
Look for the blessing that unlocks the Pottery building.
To reach it, you’ll first need to complete the required offering using Crystallized Blood.
Crystallized Blood can be obtained by clearing the Ancient Prison dungeon.
Once you’ve made the offering, you’ll unlock the Pottery building and gain access to Empty Pots.

Step 6: Build the Pottery
Construct the Pottery building inside your settlement.
If the game tells you that Material Storage is required, build that first before assigning a worker.
Once everything is ready:
- Assign a worker to the Pottery.
- Place Clay into your Material Storage.
- Supply the building with fuel.
Coal works perfectly as fuel and allows the Pottery to begin producing Empty Pots automatically.

Step 7: Craft Olive Oil
Once your Empty Pots are finished, bring them to the Dolium.
Combine the Empty Pots with your Olive Paste.
After a short processing time, you’ll receive your first batch of Olive Oil.
Congratulations—your production chain is now complete.

Why Olive Oil Is So Profitable
Olive Oil isn’t just another cooking ingredient.
It’s one of the best trade goods available during the early and mid game.
Every stage of processing increases the value of your harvest:
- Raw Olives have the lowest value.
- Olive Paste is worth more.
- Olive Oil is worth even more.
Instead of selling your crops immediately, processing them all the way into Olive Oil dramatically increases your profits.
Best Passive Income Method
If your settlement is already producing Olives consistently, Olive Oil can become one of your most reliable sources of passive income.
Rather than repeatedly farming dungeons or selling equipment, you can continuously produce Olive Oil and sell it through the Market for a steady stream of money.
As your farming operation grows, this production chain becomes even more profitable, making it one of the best long-term investments for any settlement.
Final Tips
Olive Oil takes a little more setup than most crafting recipes, but the investment is well worth it.
Unlock the Dolium through your Worship tree, collect Clay to build it, process Olives into Olive Paste, produce Empty Pots through the Pottery, and combine both ingredients to create Olive Oil.
Once everything is automated, you’ll have a valuable cooking ingredient, an excellent trade good, and one of the most reliable passive income sources available in Romestead.
