Rune Helm

It is perhaps fitting that the first pieces of rune equipment were worn by the creator of runes themselves, Guthix. Of course, rune metal is not made of runes, and indeed has no actual connection to runes at all, but Guthix, for all his many qualities, was not the greatest of wordsmiths.

The god journeyed deep into Ashenfall, where he discovered the Wellspring and the strange metal that glistened nearby from the rocks. It had a soft blue-ish hue that was both subtle and entrancing in different ways and he became intrigued. Using techniques he had learned from the dwarves, Guthix attempted to fashion the metal into equipment, yet it resisted his every effort and refused to be anything more than a strange, glittery sort of ore.

There was magic there, in the ore. It resisted pickaxes, it repelled weaponry, it practically jeered at Guthix, telling him that it was the most interesting metal around. Yet no matter what he tried, he could not tame it.

Until he discovered luminite, and then everything changed.
