These gourds are most popular around the autumn, where they are hollowed out by local children and used to ward away spirits – poorly, as it seems they attract more than they repel.

Indeed one strange fellow found himself so delighted by the strange gourds that he took an aspect of them into himself, feeling that they best embodied his favourite time of the year. So the strange individual known as “Pumpkin Pete”, part of the Pete family, came to be.
