Ancestral Staff

Avisk weighed the staff in his hands. The Kobalios he had killed lay on the ground beside him, deflating into a pool of anima. Like a waterskin purged of its contents, he thought.

The Kobalio's staff fascinated him greatly. He knew that he was standing here, holding it, in this chamber of the Wellspring. But he couldn't shake the sensation that he was somewhere else, too. There was two of him, somehow; one here, and one not here.

Avisk knew of a sensation called 'phantom limbs', where one could lose a limb, from an accident, perhaps, but still feel that the limb was present. It was an adequate description for what he was feeling now: except, he felt like his body was elsewhere, and he was its phantom mind.

Avisk dropped the staff and the sensation dropped with it. A grin spread across Avisk's face. Oh yes, this was a discovery that deserved some investigation.
