The rune fire arrow is central to a story about the knight commander, Sir Leigh. In his will, Sir Leigh requested a full-boat burning. He wanted to be pushed out to sea, towards the mainland where he was born, and an archer was to set the pyre alight with a rune fire arrow. Sat at his desk, writing the will, it would have sounded like a fantastic idea to Sir Leigh. But in reality it was very different.
Rune, you see, has repulsive properties. It is diamagnetic. So when Sir Leigh was laid to rest in his gold armour atop a raft, and the archer tried to aim for the pyre-wood beneath him, the rune arrows would not hit. Dozens upon dozens of arrows were fired, and they all deviated from their path thanks to the runic properties. By the time a boat was sent out with a man holding a lit torch, two seagulls and one shark had been set alight.
