How to Get Nuts in Tales of the Shire
There are two primary ways to get nuts in Bywater: foraging in the wild or trading with Willow Took.
Foraging Nuts, by Season
Each type of nut can be found on the ground in The Forest, but only during specific seasons:
- Hazelnuts: Can be foraged during Summer and Autumn.
- Chestnuts & Walnuts: Can be foraged during Autumn and Winter.

Trading for Nuts with Willow Took
The most reliable, year-round method for getting nuts is by trading with Willow Took. She will happily trade you 3 of any nut (your choice) for just one piece of Windfall Wood. What to do With Nuts in Tales of the Shire
Once you have a supply of nuts, you have two main options: use them for cooking or sell them for coin.
- Use them for Cooking: Nuts are a key ingredient in many delicious recipes, such as Jam Dipped Candied Oranges and Oranges and Pebbles. Using high-quality ingredients is the best way to make friends in Bywater.
- Sell them for Coin: All nuts can be sold to any trader. Their price changes with the seasons, making them more valuable when they are harder to find.
How to Make the Most of Your Nuts
Here are the best strategies for using your nuts, depending on your playstyle:
- The Canny Trader: For maximum profit, sell your nuts when they are out of season. All nuts sell for the highest price during Spring, since none can be foraged then. Stockpile your Autumn, Winter and Summer nuts and sell them in Spring for a tidy profit!
- The Gourmet Chef: Focus on using your nuts to cook impressive meals. A well-made Oranges and Pebbles or a sweet Raspberry Hazelnut Sponge is a fantastic way to increase your friendship level with your fellow hobbits, which is the key to unlocking new quests and rewards.
