Embark has finally put a date on it. Frozen Trail arrives on October 8, and it is the largest content drop ARC Raiders has had since launch.

Aleksander Grondal, Embark’s executive producer, published the development update on August 12 covering a new map, a new ARC Operation, new ARC enemies, and a progression overhaul built around a new player space called the Outpost. This guide covers what is confirmed, what Embark deliberately left out, and what you should be doing in the 57 days before it goes live.

What Embark confirmed for October 8

The August 12 post is a feature reveal rather than patch notes, so there are no stat changes or version numbers attached to it yet. Embark has said a fuller reveal is coming in September, with the update itself landing on October 8.

Here is everything named in the announcement:

  • New map: A frozen settlement at the edge of the Rust Belt, sitting beneath mountains and built out of abandoned villages, factories, research facilities, and an observatory.
  • New ARC Operation: A high-level activity aimed at experienced Raiders, designed around dynamic encounters and forced cooperation.
  • New ARC enemies: A spread that runs from one small, fast problem-maker up to a large machine intended to stop you outright.
  • The Outpost: A new space that expands past the Raider Den, with decoration, research, and a stated goal of reclaiming the surface.
  • Skill Tree adjustments: Changes meant to give you more control over the kind of Raider you build.
  • Raider Deck rework: Embark has flagged decks as a target for making progression more rewarding.
  • New gear: New weapons with more personalization options, plus gadgets, cosmetics, and instruments.

Embark also confirmed that matchmaking, anti-cheat, and stability work continues alongside the update rather than pausing for it.

The new map: a frozen settlement beyond the mountains

The setup is narrative. Shani calls on Raiders to investigate an unprecedented signal coming from beyond the mountains, and you go in as part of the initial scouting party.

Design-wise, Embark is leaning on verticality. The team has said you will face threats both above and below ground, which is a shift from the mostly horizontal loot loops on the current ARC Raiders maps.

One detail most coverage will miss: back in May, Embark’s development update described this map as the largest in the game. The August post does not repeat that claim, so treat “largest map” as a May statement rather than a fresh confirmation until the September reveal.

The map is also still moving. Embark says a round of user experience research testing has just wrapped and the team is iterating on the results, which means layout details are not final.

The new ARC Operation and the new ARC

Embark is holding back almost everything about the new ARC Operation, including its name. What has been described is the design intent: meaningful decisions, dynamic encounters, and moments that demand careful judgement from your squad.

The company line is that success will not come easily, and that it will be one of the most intense activities in the game. For context on what you are currently up against, our ARC enemy database covers behaviour and weak points for every machine live today.

On the new enemies, Embark described a range spanning one small harasser to one enormous blocker. The studio also noted that each ARC goes through months of iteration across concept, animation, behaviour, and machine learning systems, which is a reasonable explanation for why new machines arrive slowly.

Outposts, Skill Tree changes, and Raider Decks

This is the section that matters most if you have hundreds of hours in. Embark’s May development update was blunt about the problem: a large number of players have maxed out their Raider Den and hit the Skill Point ceiling with nothing left to chase.

The Outpost is the answer. Rather than replacing the Raider Den, it is framed as an expansion of it, moving you from hiding underground toward taking ground back.

Two follow-on changes are attached. The Skill Tree is being adjusted for more build agency, and Raider Decks are being reworked to feel more rewarding, though neither has published detail yet.

If you are planning around this, our Skill Tree builder and Workshop planner both track your current state so you can see exactly where your ceiling sits before October.

Confirmed vs still unannounced

Plenty of Frozen Trail coverage reads as though everything is locked in. It is not, and knowing the difference saves you from planning around features that do not exist yet.

The two rows worth watching are the progression reset and the Raider Deck rework. Both would change how you spend the next eight weeks, and neither has an answer yet.

How Frozen Trail fits the twice-yearly schedule

Frozen Trail is the first update built under Embark’s new cadence. In May the studio moved from monthly updates to two major releases a year, arguing that a monthly cycle capped how impactful any single update could be.

That change is why the gap since launch has felt long. It also means the live service team has kept shipping smaller work in between, including Live Update 1.39.0 on July 28, which began testing the removal of Defensive PvP weighting from matchmaking.

Embark also confirmed the team will be at gamescom in Cologne, so hands-on impressions may surface before the September reveal.

What to do before October 8

Eight weeks is enough time to fix the things that will slow you down on launch day. These are the areas Embark has flagged as changing, so preparation here carries the least risk of being wasted.

  • Clear stash pressure: The level 25 Trader takes high-value items in exchange for extra Stash space, and Frozen Trail adds an entirely new space to fill.
  • Finish open Projects: Projects unlock after five rounds and pay out into progression you keep, so closing them now beats racing them later.
  • Bank blueprints you actually use: Track gaps with our Blueprint Tracker rather than hoarding duplicates.
  • Know your loot floor: Our loot value tiers help you decide what to trade off versus what to hold through the update.
  • Keep running Trials:Weekly Trials reset regularly and remain the steadiest reward source between now and October.

Example scenarios

Example scenario: deciding whether to run Expedition before Frozen Trail

You are a long-time Raider with a full Stash, a maxed Raider Den, and no Skill Points left to spend. Expedition resets your progress, which is the obvious way to give yourself something to chase, but Frozen Trail is due to add new progression systems in under two months.

The relevant confirmed fact is the Expedition Vault, unlocked through the level 25 Trader, which lets you carry up to five items across an Expedition. Embark has not said whether Outposts interact with Expedition, so the lower-risk option is to hold your Expedition until the September reveal explains how the Outpost slots into the progression chain.

Example scenario: planning a build before the Skill Tree changes

You are returning after a break, sitting mid-tree, and unsure whether to commit your remaining points now. Embark has confirmed the Skill Tree is being adjusted for more build agency, but has not confirmed a respec, a refund, or a full restructure.

The practical read is that points already spent on core survivability and looting speed are unlikely to be wasted, while heavily specialized picks carry more uncertainty. Saving your intended setup in our ARC Raiders loadouts tool costs nothing and lets you compare against the September details before committing.

Frequently asked questions

When does the ARC Raiders Frozen Trail update release?

Frozen Trail releases on October 8, 2026. Embark confirmed the date in its August 12 development update and said a fuller reveal follows in September.

What is the new Frozen Trail map called?

Embark has not named it. The studio has only described it as a frozen settlement at the edge of the Rust Belt, built around abandoned villages, factories, research facilities, and an observatory.

Is the Raider Den being removed?

No. The Outpost is described as an expansion of your existing space rather than a replacement, though Embark has not detailed how the two connect.

Will there be a progression wipe in Frozen Trail?

Embark has not addressed a wipe or reset in either the May or August posts. Treat any claim either way as unconfirmed until the September reveal.

How many new ARC enemies are coming?

The count has not been given. Embark has only said the new machines range from a small, fast problem-maker to a large machine built to stop you in your tracks.

Why is there such a long gap between ARC Raiders updates?

Embark moved to two major updates per year in May 2026, saying a monthly cycle limited how impactful each release could be. Smaller live updates, balance passes, store updates, and events continue in between.
