Enshrouded

To complete the Crown of Sorrow quest in Enshrouded, take the Broken Guard of the North Crown from the Cromville Throne Room to unlock Flame level 10. This opens the route into Cinder’s Cradle.

The team here at MetaForge tested the Crown of Sorrow quest in Enshrouded on version 1.0.0.0, which launched on October 15, 2026. Follow the route below to reach the throne along the town walls and rooftops while skipping most of Cromville’s fights.

How to Complete the Crown of Sorrow Quest

Crown of Sorrow is a main quest granted automatically by the Flame, and the Throne Room is marked on your map once it starts. Work through these four steps to move your Flame from level 9 to level 10.

  1. Reach Flame level 9: The crown is only used for the level 9 to 10 upgrade.
  2. Travel to Cromville: Head to the northwest of the map, where the Throne Room sits at the highest point of the town.
  3. Take the crown: Climb to the throne and pick up the Broken Guard of the North Crown from the armrest.
  4. Strengthen the Flame: Return to any Flame Altar and use the crown, along with the other listed materials, to reach level 10.

Map marker positions are estimates and may not match your world exactly, so use them as a guide rather than a guaranteed location.

What You Need Before Starting Crown of Sorrow

The run through Cromville relies on traversal tools and enough sustain to survive a few unavoidable hits. Pack the following before you set out.

  • Glider: Several gaps on the rooftop route are only crossable by jumping off a ledge and gliding.
  • Grappling hook: You need it to pull yourself onto upper walls and across the gap inside the main building.
  • Upgraded gear: Breaking through barriers on the route costs some health, and late-game armor lets you absorb those hits without stopping.
  • Healing potions: Carry a stack for the courtyard, where you may get caught by a group of enemies.
  • A nearby Flame Altar (optional): Placing an altar just outside Cromville shortens the trip back if you die.

Once you have these, fast travel to the closest altar to Cromville and start the climb.

Crown of Sorrow Walkthrough to the Cromville Throne Room

This Crown of Sorrow route follows the town walls and rooftops instead of the streets. Most enemies along it can be skipped by dodging past them.

  1. Enter Cromville: Follow the road up to the town and pass through the gates. You do not need to fight the mobs here, so keep moving.
  2. Climb onto the roof: Jump up onto the first rooftop, then drop down the other side. Keep following the town walls from here.
  3. Glide and drift: Jump off the ledge, open your glider, and drift up and across the gap. Grapple onto the top of the wall when you land.
  4. Drop down the hole: From the top of the wall, drop through the opening into the area below. Kill or dodge the explosive enemy waiting near the landing.
  5. Avoid the large enemy: Run around the left side to avoid the big enemy in this area. If it aggros, keep running, since fighting it costs a lot of time.
  6. Break through the barriers: Attack the first barrier to break it, then dodge roll and break through the second one. Expect to take some damage here.
  7. Clear or skip the courtyard: The courtyard enemies are manageable if you dodge and use potions. Killing them gives you loot and a chance to heal before the next section.
  1. Enter the main building: Head to the door at the end of the courtyard and go inside. Take the stairs on the left as you enter.
  2. Cross to the back stairs: Kill the small bug enemies, move right, and climb the stairs at the back. Jump and grapple across the gap to the other side.
  3. Climb to the silver chest: Go through the door, take the stairs on the right, and kill the larger bug. Grapple up to reach a silver chest containing gold and a weapon.
  4. Break the doorway: Break open the small doorway near the chest to step out near the top of Cromville. Turn right, then jump and glide across.
  5. Reach the castle: Head to the respawn point and enter the castle. Climb the steps, then go left or right at the top.
  6. Take the crown: Walk up to the throne and interact with the crown on the armrest to pick it up.

Example Scenario (hypothetical): Say you reach the courtyard low on health with enemies following you from the barriers. Back up to the barrier opening so they reach you one at a time, then heal before entering the main building.

Once the crown is in your inventory, fast travel back to a Flame Altar to finish the quest.

Optional Loot and Lore Inside Cromville

Beyond the silver chest on the main route, Cromville holds extra pickups that are not needed for the Flame upgrade. Grab them if you have time on the way to the throne.

  • Lore notes: The first sits to the left of the back stairs in the main building, with several more scattered through the interior.
  • Throne Room chests: Both the left and right paths at the top of the castle steps lead past chests you can loot before taking the crown.

If you only want the Flame upgrade, loot the Throne Room chests on your way up and leave the lore notes for a later visit.

How to Upgrade Your Flame to Level 10

To upgrade your Flame to level 10, open any Flame Altar, select Strengthen the Flame, and confirm once every requirement in the table below is met, including the Broken Guard of the North Crown and 16 Survivors. The Flame moves from level 9 to 10 as soon as you confirm.

Spark60
Drak Blood30
Daylily30
Gleam Root Dust15
Piscine Ivory Dust10
Shroud Sludge10

If you are missing any material, look up where it comes from in the Enshrouded Database before you head out to farm.

What Flame Level 10 Unlocks

Flame level 10 unlocks access to Cinder’s Cradle, the far northern biome past the Veilwater Basin gates that was added in Enshrouded 1.0. It also raises your Flame Altar limit to 15, so you can place additional fast travel points as you push into the new region.

  • Biome layout: A lava wasteland on the lower layer with floating islands above, sitting between Blackmire and Veilwater Basin in size.
  • New faction: The Cinder’s Cradle faction adds 14 enemy types to the region.
  • Shroud Roots: The biome holds 12 Shroud Roots to clear.
  • Obsidian lockpicks: Higher-tier locks need this new lockpick set, which starts appearing in Cinder’s Cradle.

Stock up on your best gear and food before crossing the gates.

Carry Your Level 10 Flame into Cinder’s Cradle

With your Flame at level 10, head through the Veilwater Basin gates and into Cinder’s Cradle. Place a Flame Altar just inside the biome so you have a safe respawn point while you explore.

From there, work through the region’s Shroud Roots and use any obsidian lockpicks you find on its higher-tier locks. Keep pushing toward Flame level 11 as your next long-term goal in Enshrouded, and return to Cromville by the same rooftop route whenever you want its remaining lore notes.

FAQs

Does an Early Access save reset anything before Crown of Sorrow in Enshrouded 1.0?

Yes, loading an Early Access save in Enshrouded 1.0 resets your skill tree the first time, according to the version 1.0.0.0 patch notes. The save itself still loads, so respend your skill points before running Cromville so you have your damage and stamina skills back for the courtyard fight.

How do you get 16 Survivors for Flame level 10 in Enshrouded?

You get Survivors by rescuing NPCs across Embervale and bringing them back to your base, such as the Blacksmith, Alchemist, Hunter, and Farmer. If your count is below 16, finish any outstanding rescue quests in earlier regions and Veilwater Basin, then return to the Flame Altar.

Did Enshrouded 1.0 change the glider and grappling hook?

Yes, in Enshrouded 1.0 the glider uses less Shroud Adhesive, and air streams can now push it in any direction, not just upward. The grappling hook also has a better pull trajectory and a lower stamina cost when hooking toward enemies, which helps on Cromville’s rooftop route.

What happens if my Enshrouded save has too many Flame Altars?

Enshrouded 1.0 added extra protection for saves that already exceed the Flame Altar limit, which is 15 once your Flame reaches level 10. Before placing new altars in Cinder’s Cradle, check your current count and remove older altars you no longer use for fast travel.

What does Flame level 11 do in Enshrouded?

Flame level 11 raises the Flame Altar cap to 16 and lets your Flame Altars clear the Shroud in Enshrouded 1.0. If you want Shroud-clearing altars before then, you can turn the effect on earlier through world settings instead of waiting for your Flame to reach level 11.
