Enshrouded

You can find Thyme in Enshrouded just right of the Ancient Gate, on a plateau above the Shroud near the mine, guarded by three Ancients. Take the path up to the elevator, clear the Ancients, and harvest the cluster of Thyme bushes at the top.

The team here at MetaForge recorded this route on the current 1.0 build and found it the easiest place to farm Thyme in bulk. Thyme grows mainly in Cinder’s Cradle, the floating-island region added in the 1.0 release.

How to Reach the Thyme Farm near the Ancient Gate

Cinder’s Cradle arrived in Keen Games’ 1.0 release on October 15, 2026, and this route takes you from the Shroud up to a plateau holding the main Thyme cluster. Follow these steps in order.

  1. Head to the Ancient Gate: Travel to the Ancient Gate in the far north of Embervale, past Veilwater Basin. Mark it on the Enshrouded Interactive Map before you set off.
  2. Look left of the gate: The farm sits to the left of the gate, on high ground just above the Shroud and close to the mine. If you exit the Shroud below, you arrive at the base of this climb.
  3. Follow the pathway straight up: Take the path directly uphill until you reach the elevator. On the way, you can spot a single Thyme bush sitting in the lava below.
  4. Take the elevator or climb the sides: Wait for the elevator to come down, or run up the rocky sides next to it. Both routes reach the same plateau, so pick whichever is quicker for you.
  5. Clear the Ancients at the top: You usually meet three Ancients on arrival. Defeat them before you start gathering so you can harvest without interruptions.
  6. Harvest every bush: Run across the plateau and pick up all the Thyme you can see. Then move on to the extra spawns along the lava path and up the next elevator.

Map marker positions are estimates and may not match every bush in your world exactly. Use them to find the gate, then follow the route above on foot.

How to Deal with the Ancients Guarding the Thyme

Three Ancients usually guard the plateau at the top of the elevator, and you should clear them before gathering. Fight them on the flat ground away from the lava edge, pull them one at a time where possible, and only start harvesting once all three are down.

These tips make the fight easier on a first visit:

  • Use the elevator as a choke point: Arriving by elevator lets you engage from the edge of the plateau instead of the middle. Back up toward the elevator if more than one Ancient closes in.
  • Pull with ranged attacks: A bow or ranged spell lets you tag a single Ancient from the edge of the plateau. That draws it toward you while the others stay put.
  • Watch your footing: Lava runs along the edges of this area. Keep fights toward the center of the plateau so a knockback doesn’t push you in.

Extra Thyme Along the Lava Path and Second Elevator

Once the main plateau is clear, there are two more spots to sweep before you leave. More Thyme grows to the right along the lava path, and another batch sits higher up if you ride the next elevator.

The lone bush in the lava below the first climb is the riskiest pick on the route. Skip it unless you have the health to brush the lava and get out safely.

Example Scenario (hypothetical): Say you want enough Thyme for a round of potions and a dye in one trip. Clear the plateau, sweep the lava path, ride the second elevator to finish at the highest point, then fast travel home to craft.

What Thyme is Used for in Enshrouded

Thyme is used by five crafters and stations in Enshrouded: the Kitchen for food and tea, the Alchemist for Ancient potions and a healing spell, the Coloring Station for dyes, the Hunter for bandages, and the Seedbed for seedlings. Use the table below to pick where your haul goes first.

Crafter or stationRecipes that use ThymeWhat you get
KitchenThyme Tea, Cabbage Mushroom RiceFood and drink buffs
AlchemistAncient Health Potion, Ancient Mana Potion, Eternal Chain Heal IIPotions and a healing spell
Coloring StationBitter Harvest, Ancient Greenery, Dusk Garden, Blooming AnywayDyes
HunterUltimate BandageA healing item
SeedbedThyme SeedlingPlants for your farm

Eternal Chain Heal II takes 10 Thyme per craft, so plan a full loop of the route before you craft it. Send the rest to the Kitchen for Thyme Tea, which takes 5 Thyme per batch.

How to Grow Thyme at Your Base

You can grow Thyme at your base by crafting Thyme Seedlings at the Seedbed and planting them in Basalt Farm Soil. Thyme received its own seedling in the 1.0 release, so a small plot started from one farming run can cut down on future trips to the Ancient Gate.

Set up your Thyme plot in this order:

  1. Unlock the Seedbed: Rescue the Farmer, Emily Fray, to unlock the Seedbed. It costs 10 Wood Logs, 2 Metal Scraps, and 10 Farm Soil.
  2. Get Basalt Farm Soil: Dig it out of the terrain in Cinder’s Cradle, have the Farmer craft it, or earn it from the Crops Of Cinder’s Cradle quest. Collect enough to cover every plot you plan to sow.
  3. Craft Thyme Seedlings: Combine 1 Thyme and 1 Basalt Farm Soil at the Seedbed to make 5 Thyme Seedlings. One farming run gives you enough Thyme for several batches.
  4. Plant and harvest: Sow the seedlings in Basalt Farm Soil, then harvest them once fully grown. Turn part of each harvest back into seedlings to keep the plot going.

Turn One Thyme Run into a Stocked Kitchen and Alchemist

You can now clear the Ancients at the Ancient Gate and gather a large batch of Thyme in a single loop. Top it up from the lava path and upper elevator before you head home.

Plant a few Thyme Seedlings as soon as you get back so you rarely need to make the trip again. Then craft your Thyme Tea and Ancient potions and push deeper into Cinder’s Cradle.

FAQs

Does Thyme respawn in Enshrouded?

Yes, Thyme bushes in Enshrouded respawn after you harvest them, so the Ancient Gate farm near the mine can be farmed again on later visits. MetaForge has not timed the exact respawn on the 1.0 build, so fit other Cinder’s Cradle tasks in between runs.

Do you need to go into the Shroud to farm Thyme in Enshrouded?

No, the main Thyme cluster at the Ancient Gate in Enshrouded sits on a plateau above the Shroud, so no Shroud timer runs while you harvest. You only cross the Shroud when approaching from the valley below the mine, so arrive with a full Shroud timer.

What happens to your Thyme if you die in Enshrouded?

If you die in Enshrouded on default world settings, your backpack items, including any Thyme, drop into a gravestone where you fell, and you respawn at a Flame Altar or bed. Return to that spot, clear any nearby enemies, and interact with the gravestone to recover everything.

Can you lower the Flame Level for Cinder’s Cradle in Enshrouded?

Yes, you can lower the Flame Level required for Cinder’s Cradle in Enshrouded to any level through the world settings, as Keen Games confirmed in its 1.0 release announcement. This opens the Ancient Gate Thyme farm earlier, but the region’s enemies still hit hard at lower levels.

Why is Thyme Tea not showing up at the Kitchen in Enshrouded?

Thyme Tea only appears at the Kitchen in Enshrouded after you rescue Emily Fray and pick up Thyme, which unlocks the recipe. If it is still missing, confirm your Kitchen is built, then compare your materials against the Thyme Tea entry in the Enshrouded Database.
