How to Unlock Rope Dart and Join Your First Sect in Where Winds Meet
How to Unlock the Rope Dart and Join the Nine Mortal Ways Sect
The Rope Dart can be unlocked either by infiltrating the Nine Mortal Ways sect to steal the skill or by joining the sect directly through a specific vendor item.
There are two distinct ways to do this depending on whether you want to commit to the sect or just want the weapon. Both methods are reliable, though the infiltration method involves quite a bit of running around and changing clothes.
Method 1: Infiltrating the Sect (The “Quest” Way)
This method is for players who want to steal the skill without joining the sect, or who just want to clear the quest markers in Kaifeng. It involves a lot of running back and forth.

Phase 1: The Disguise Tutorial
Before you can break into the main base, the game forces you to prove you understand the disguise mechanic.

- Locate the Quest: In Kaifeng, look for the green quest marker near the Martial Hall. An Elder outside the gate will give you the initial prompt.
- The First Disguise: Go to the building on the left. The female NPC there wants a Jade Satchet from a man standing in the center of the room.

- The Target: You cannot just ask him for it. You must look like the woman he loves. Go around the corner to find her.
- Copying Appearance:
- Activate “Wind Sense.”
- Aim at the woman and press ‘G’ to paint her portrait.
- Return to the quest giver (the first female NPC) and choose the option to disguise yourself.
- The Theft: Walk up to the man in the center while disguised. Use Wind Sense again and request the item. He will give it to you because he thinks you are someone else.

Phase 2: Infiltrating the Main Base
Now that you know how to dress up, you have to do it for real to enter the sect.
- Get the Disciple’s Face: You need to find the “Disciple of Nine Mortal Ways” outside. Approach him from the front and use the painting mechanic (G then F) to get his disguise.

- Travel Warning: Go back to the disguise NPC and put on the Disciple disguise. Do not use the main teleporters. Use the landmark on the left side of the map. If you use the wrong one or approach the disciple while already disguised, the disguise will break, and you will have to paint him again.
- Entering the Base: Walk into the sect. Do not sprint. If you run, you might alert them.
- Getting Clearance:
- Go to the building on the right. Find the NPC Tankai.
- Use Wind Sense and request his coin/token.
- Take this coin to the main court guard, Pouie, to gain access to the inner area.

- The Theft Minigame:
- Before stealing the skill, talk to the Elder in the back of the room to “confirm” you belong there. Just click through the first dialogue options.
- Go to the skill theft spot and interact with it.
- The Minigame: You will see a shrinking circle. Do not press anything when it is grey. Wait until the circle turns Golden, then press ‘F’. Do this until the progress bar hits 50/50.

Method 2: Joining the Sect (The Fast Way)
This method is much faster but requires you to join the Nine Mortal Ways sect. If you are already in a sect you like, use Method 1. If you do not care, do this.
It relies on a bit of in-game lore where the Nine Immortal Vases sect scams people by pretending to be the popular “Midnight Blades” sect.
- Buy the Token:
- Travel to Harvestful Village.
- Find the general merchant/NPC vendor there.
- Look for an item called the Rogue Token. Read the description carefully; it will mention seeking a guide for the “Midnight Blades,” but the item is actually sold by the Nine Mortal Ways. Buy it.

- Find the Recruiter:
- Travel to Halo’s Speak.
- Go to the bottom area where there are several bodies lying around.
- Look for an NPC named Chantika.
- Talk to her and present the Rogue Token.

- Join and Learn:
- Chantika will send you to another NPC nearby.
- This NPC will reveal the “scam” and invite you to the Nine Mortal Ways.
- Accept the invitation. As soon as you join, the Rope Dart martial art is automatically added to your inventory. You do not have to play the stealing minigame.

Which method should you choose?
- Choose Method 1 if you want the “Mortal Dart Technique” but want to stay in your current sect (like the Wudang or Shaolin).
- Choose Method 2 if you want the weapon immediately and do not mind being part of the Nine Mortal Ways.
Notes on Supplies
If you run out of supplies for painting portraits during the first method, you need “Rattan Paper.” There is an NPC in the city who sells this if you find yourself unable to complete the disguise steps.

Both methods result in you getting the weapon. It is a great weapon to have.
