Enshrouded

To complete Crops of Cinder’s Cradle in Enshrouded, gather five crops in the Cave Passage above Drak’Dal Camp, then craft Basalt Farm Soil for the Farmer. The Crops of Cinder’s Cradle quest is given by Emily Fray, the Farmer, and takes one trip to Cinder’s Cradle plus a short crafting chain at your base.

The team here at MetaForge tested every step in-game on version 1.0 of Enshrouded, the full release that added Cinder’s Cradle as the endgame biome when it launched on October 15, 2026.

Crops of Cinder’s Cradle Walkthrough

The Crops of Cinder’s Cradle quest has three journal objectives: gather the crops in Cinder’s Cradle, deliver them to the Farmer, and craft or obtain Basalt Farm Soil. In play, that breaks down into five steps, starting and ending at your base with Emily Fray.

  1. Accept the quest: Speak to Emily Fray, who marks a gathering spot in Cinder’s Cradle on your map.
  2. Travel to the Cave Passage: Head for the marker just above Drak’Dal Camp, using the altar near Andromeda’s Eye as your starting point.
  3. Gather the five crops: Collect Aurora Beans, Prickle Pearl, Bloomheart Fruit, Grandleaf Cabbage, and Thyme in and around the cave.
  4. Hand in the crops: Interact with Emily Fray to deliver all five and unlock the final objective.
  5. Craft Basalt Farm Soil: Craft it at the Farmer from Fertilised Farm Soil and Basalt Dust to complete the quest.

How to Reach the Cave Passage in Cinder’s Cradle

The Cave Passage sits just above Drak’Dal Camp, close to Andromeda’s Eye, and the most practical starting point is the altar respawn point beside it. Activate the altar if you have not already, then follow the path straight through Drak’Dal Camp until it opens into the cave.

The altar is a central point for several Cinder’s Cradle quests, and lightning orbs shoot out from it once it is active as a respawn point. You can check the cave’s position on the Enshrouded Interactive Map before setting off, though marker placements are estimates and may not line up exactly with your game.

Once you are inside the cave, start harvesting and chopping trees to collect the five crops.

Where to Find All Five Crops

All five crops are around the Cave Passage: Aurora Beans grow as harvestable plants, Prickle Pearl, Bloomheart Fruit, and Grandleaf Cabbage come from chopping specific trees, and Thyme grows throughout the area. The quickest method is to interact with everything you pass (E by default on PC), then drop what you do not need.

Not every tree drops a quest crop. Plain trees only give Tropical Wood and some trees drop Venom Sting, so prioritize the ones with red fruit on top.

CropHow you get itRaw effects
Aurora BeansHarvest the plants inside the caveHealth -80, Stamina -70 (cook before eating)
Prickle PearlChop trees with red fruit on topHealth Regeneration +24 for 3m 30s
Bloomheart FruitChop trees with red fruit on topHealth Regeneration +24 for 3m 30s
Grandleaf CabbageChop the other tree types in the caveDagger and Ranged Damage +21% for 30 min
ThymeHarvest anywhere around the caveMana +140 for 30 min

With all five crops in your inventory, return to Emily Fray and hand them in.

How to Craft Basalt Farm Soil

Basalt Farm Soil is crafted at the Farmer from 5 Fertilised Farm Soil and 10 Basalt Dust, producing 10 soil per craft. You make Basalt Dust by grinding Basalt in a Mill, and Fertilised Farm Soil comes from the Farmer as well, so most of the work is gathering raw materials.

When you hand in the crops, Emily Fray points you toward Fertilised Farm Soil and Basalt Dust. Work through the chain in this order:

  1. Mine Basalt: Dig the dark volcanic Basalt out of the terrain in Cinder’s Cradle. Picking it up also unlocks several Ancient building recipes.
  2. Place a Mill: You need a working Mill, crafted by Balthazar, the Alchemist, or earned from the Obtaining A Mill quest.
  3. Grind Basalt Dust: Load Basalt into the Mill and select Basalt Dust, which takes 1 Basalt per craft.
  4. Craft Fertilised Farm Soil: At the Farmer, combine Fossilized Bone Dust, Nitrate, Farm Soil, and Sand into Fertilised Farm Soil. Fossilized Bone Dust also comes from the Mill, so you can queue it alongside Basalt Dust.
  5. Craft Basalt Farm Soil: Return to Emily Fray and craft Basalt Farm Soil to complete the quest.
RecipeCrafted atIngredients per craftOutput per craft
Fertilised Farm SoilFarmer2 Fossilized Bone Dust, 3 Nitrate, 10 Farm Soil, 10 Sand10
Basalt Farm SoilFarmer5 Fertilised Farm Soil, 10 Basalt Dust10

One craft of Fertilised Farm Soil covers two crafts of Basalt Farm Soil, which makes Basalt Dust the bottleneck. You can confirm each recipe in the Enshrouded Database, then keep your Mill grinding Basalt Dust whenever it is free.

Crops of Cinder’s Cradle Rewards

Completing Crops of Cinder’s Cradle awards 225 XP and Basalt Farm Soil, the soil Cinder’s Cradle crops are grown in. Its item description states it provides the nutrients plants from Cinder’s Cradle need.

Picking up each crop also unlocks new recipes. Cinder’s Cradle arrived with the version 1.0 changelog, and each of its crops unlocks its own seedling plus new food:

  • Aurora Beans: Aurora Bean Seedling, Aurora Bean Rice, and Plantain Salad with Aurora Beans.
  • Prickle Pearl: Prickle Pearl Seedling, Prickle Pearl Tart, and Pearlbloom Nectar.
  • Bloomheart Fruit: Bloomheart Fruit Seedling, Exotic Fruit Salad, and Pearlbloom Nectar.
  • Grandleaf Cabbage: Grandleaf Cabbage Seedling, Grandleaf Cabbage Rolls, and Cabbage Mushroom Rice.

Open your crafting menus after the hand-in to start making these seedlings and dishes.

Start Growing Cinder’s Cradle Crops at Your Base

Your next move is to lay Basalt Farm Soil at your base and plant the seedlings you unlocked, so you can harvest these crops without returning to the Cave Passage. Head back to Cinder’s Cradle for more Basalt whenever you want to expand the bed.

From there, use your new food buffs to push into the rest of the endgame content in Enshrouded. Keen Games has confirmed an Xbox Series X|S release for Spring 2027, so for now, you can play this quest chain on the Steam version and PlayStation 5.

FAQs

How do you unlock Emily Fray to start Crops of Cinder’s Cradle in Enshrouded?

Emily Fray, the Farmer in Enshrouded, unlocks after you complete the Growing Stronger Together quest, and she gives Crops of Cinder’s Cradle along with her other Farmer quests. You also need access to Cinder’s Cradle, the endgame biome added in version 1.0, to complete the quest’s gathering objective.

Why is my Mill not making Basalt Dust in Enshrouded?

A Mill in Enshrouded only produces Basalt Dust when a force generator sits nearby: Small Windmill Sails or a partially submerged Large Water Wheel or Small Water Wheel. The generator does not need to connect to the Mill, so check its placement and confirm Basalt Dust is selected.

Can you use Cinder’s Cradle Sand to craft Fertilised Farm Soil?

Yes, Fertilised Farm Soil in Enshrouded accepts Cinder’s Cradle Sand, Fine Sand, or Veilwater Basin Sand in place of regular Sand, with 10 needed per craft. Using Cinder’s Cradle Sand saves you a trip back to earlier biomes while you are already mining Basalt there for the quest.

Does Basalt Dust drop from chests in Enshrouded?

Yes, Basalt Dust drops from Locked, Silver, and Wooden Chests at up to 2.7% per roll, Sarcophagi at up to 1.2%, and Golden Chests at up to 1.1%, per MetaForge’s Enshrouded Database. At those rates, milling Basalt is the reliable source for crafting Basalt Farm Soil.

Can you grow Thyme at your base in Enshrouded?

Yes, version 1.0 added a Thyme Seedling to Enshrouded, so you can grow Thyme at your base instead of foraging for it, mainly in Cinder’s Cradle. Picking up Thyme for the first time unlocks the seedling recipe alongside Thyme Tea, Ancient Greenery, and the Ultimate Bandage.
