Enshrouded

Archaic Shards drop from Ancient enemies in Enshrouded, and the easiest farm is the group of low-level scorpion Ancients just right of the Ancient Gate, beside the mine area. Between 8 and 12 of them spawn together, each drops one shard, and the pack respawns every in-game day.

The team here at MetaForge has tested this route in-game, and it is a quick, low-risk shard farm you can run alongside your other material loops. Archaic Shards arrived with Keen Games’ full release of Enshrouded and go into late-game arrows, gear, and weapons.

Where to Farm Archaic Shards in Enshrouded

The farm sits on the upper levels above the Ancient Gate, reached by a hill climb and two elevators from the ledge where you exit the Shroud. The scorpion Ancients spawn on the top level, while the first elevator stop holds three more Ancients and a Celestium Ore deposit.

Check the area around the Ancient Gate on our Enshrouded Interactive Map before your first run, though marker positions are estimates and don’t guarantee an identical layout in your world. Clear the pack whenever you pass through, then come back on the next in-game day.

What You Need Before Farming Archaic Shards

This farm sits in late-game territory, so you need some progression and a few tools before your first run. Have the following ready:

  • Cinder’s Cradle access: The region arrived in the 1.0 update beyond the Veilwater Basin gates, and a new Flame Level gates it while raising the Flame Altar cap to 15. Push the main quest and strengthen your Flame Altar to get in.
  • A spare Flame Altar: Placing one on the ledge above the Shroud exit gives you a fast-travel point. This saves you running through the Shroud on every visit.
  • A glider: You glide up from the Shroud exit to the altar ledge.
  • An AoE weapon or spell: The scorpion Ancients spawn in a tight pack, so area damage clears them far faster than single-target attacks.
  • A pickaxe: You need it to mine the Celestium Ore along the route, which smelts into Celestium Bars for higher-tier crafting.

Once your kit is ready, travel to the Shroud exit beside the Ancient Gate to start the route.

How to Reach the Archaic Shard Farm

This is the route we use in Enshrouded since the 1.0 release, starting from where you exit the Shroud near the Ancient Gate. Once your altar is placed, every later run starts from step 3.

  1. Exit the Shroud near the Ancient Gate: Head for the mine area just left of the gate, where the path climbs out of the Shroud.
  2. Glide up and place your altar: Jump and glide up to the ledge above the Shroud exit, then set up a Flame Altar there.
  3. Climb the hill: Make your way up the hill from the altar toward the first elevator.
  4. Ride the first elevator: Kill the three Ancients at the top for extra shards, and mine the Celestium Ore deposit before moving on.
  5. Take the second elevator or climb: Ride the next elevator, or run and jump up the rock sides until you reach the top.
  6. Ready your AoE and step in: The open area at the top holds the scorpion pack, so line up your area attacks before you engage.

How to Farm the Scorpion Ancients Quickly

Pull the scorpion Ancients into one tight group, then hit them with area-of-effect damage so the whole pack drops together. Each one only gives a single Archaic Shard, so the yield comes from volume, and their low level means even a modest AoE setup clears them safely.

Collect every drop before you leave, since the pack also leaves Gold Ore alongside the shards. These drops match the Ancient C.R.T.R. Construct entry in MetaForge’s database, which lists one Archaic Shard and one Gold Ore per kill.

Most other Ancient Constructs drop 3-5 Archaic Shards each, and the Ancient S.P.D.R. Construct boss drops 7-10, but they take longer to kill than the scorpion pack. Kill any you pass on the way to and from the farm to top up your supply between daily clears.

What Archaic Shards Are Used For

Archaic Shards go into late-game crafting, including the arrows, gear, and weapons you craft for the Cinder’s Cradle tier. They are also used for Archaic Lockpicks, part of the new lockpick set that the official 1.0 patch notes confirm you need for higher-tier locks, starting in Cinder’s Cradle.

Each Archaic Lockpick costs one Archaic Shard, crafted by hand or at the Ancient Researcher once you have rescued Loraine Crim. The Enshrouded Database also lists shards in recipes such as the Blunt Arrow, Shroud Arrow III, Draconian Bow, and Archaic Infusion.

Hypothetical example: If you have two locked chests marked and also want a weapon upgrade, two lockpicks cost you just 2 shards. That leaves the rest of a daily clear free for arrow or weapon recipes, so both goals keep moving.

Put Your Archaic Shards to Work in Cinder’s Cradle

Place your altar above the Shroud exit, run the two-elevator route each in-game day, and add the Celestium Ore stop on the way. Turn your first batch of shards into Archaic Lockpicks, then work through the higher-tier locked chests and doors across Cinder’s Cradle.

FAQs

Are Archaic Shards the same as Archaic Essence?

No, they are separate materials: Archaic Essence was already mined before 1.0, while Archaic Shards drop from Ancients in late-game areas. The 1.0 update also raised Archaic Essence mining yields at all tiers, so farm Essence from ore nodes and Shards from Ancient enemies.

Do you need lockpicks to reach the shard farm?

No, the route to the scorpion Ancients uses a hill path and two elevators, with no locked doors in the way during our runs. Save your lockpicks for the higher-tier locks added in 1.0, which our Enshrouded 1.0 patch notes breakdown covers alongside every other change.

Can you farm Archaic Shards on console?

Yes, version 1.0 launched on October 15, 2026, for both PC and PlayStation 5, so Cinder’s Cradle and this shard farm are available on both platforms. The 1.0 launch did not include Xbox, so console farming is limited to PlayStation 5 for the time being.

Does the 1.0 level cap change this farm?

The 1.0 update raised the level cap to 50, but the scorpion Ancients at this spot are low level, so you do not need to be near the cap to farm them. Start running it on your first Cinder’s Cradle visit and keep it in your loop as you level.

What should you do with the Gold Ore from the farm?

Smelt the Gold Ore into Gold Bars at a Blast Furnace, then use them for Gilded tools like the Gilded Pickaxe or process them into Gold Dust at the Mill. Our Enshrouded gold ore guide covers more sources if you need extra for Flame upgrades.
