Obtaining a Mill Quest in Enshrouded

The Obtaining a Mill quest unlocks the upgraded milling system in Enshrouded, allowing you to produce Iron Dust and, later, Green Vitriol Dust—both essential for strengthening your Flame. This quest begins in Veilwater Basin and sends you to restore and reclaim an old mill so you can build an improved version at your base.

Step 1 – Get the Quest From the Alchemist

Speak with the Alchemist at your base to begin the quest. He will send you to recover an improved mill component from River Reach, one of the first locations you discover upon entering Veilwater Basin.

Step 2 – Travel to River Reach

If you already placed an altar at River Reach, fast travel directly to it.
Otherwise, travel from Albaneve Summits toward the Passage to the Veilwater Basin, follow the route into the basin, and continue until you reach River Reach.

Before entering the building, be cautious of the small traps near the entrance.

Step 3 – Enter the Mill Building

Approach the building from the corner to avoid drawing too many enemies at once. Enter, defeat the rats inside, and mine the patch of terrain blocking the path.

Interact with the existing mill and the nearby note to progress the quest. You’ll discover that the mill is currently in use, and you must stop the water wheels before retrieving its component.

Step 4 – Reach the Water Wheels

Proceed down the stairs, open the door and follow the hallway until you reach the water wheel area. Break through the damaged door to access the wheels fully.

Take a right to reach the floodgate controls, where several enemies are waiting. Defeat them to safely operate the mechanism.

Step 5 – Shut Down the Water Flow

Interact with all three floodgates to close them, stopping the water flow and powering down the mill. If the quest does not update properly, reopen and reclose the gates — this typically resolves the issue.

Once the gates are sealed, backtrack along the same route to return to the mill building.

Step 6 – Retrieve the Improved Millstone

You’ll now see that the mill has stopped moving. Interact with it to collect the Improved Millstone, the upgraded milling component required for crafting the new mill at your base.

This item is essential for producing Iron Dust, which later allows you to create Green Vitriol Dust in the Laboratory—one of the core materials for Flame upgrades.

Step 7 – Return Home and Craft the New Mill

Go back to your base and speak again with the Alchemist. The crafting recipe for the new Mill will now be available. The mill must be powered by a Force Generator, meaning you’ll need a Water Wheel or Windmill Sails nearby for it to function.

Craft the mill, place it outside your base, and power it appropriately. You can now begin producing Iron Dust, which takes time to craft and is required in large quantities for later progression.

With your new mill fully operational, the quest is complete.
