How to Farm and Craft Black Metal Bars in RuneScape: Dragonwilds
You can craft Black Metal Bars by processing either Black Metal Scraps or Black Salvage Piles at a Blast Furnace, utilizing resources primarily dropped by Black Knights near the Grand Hall. Gathering these materials is a bit of a grind since it relies heavily on RNG from loot bags, but setting up a reliable farming route helps smooth out the process. You can also occasionally find Metal Salvage nodes scattered around Dowdun Reach, but hunting knights is generally a more consistent method if you need materials in bulk.
An Efficient Grand Hall Farming Route
To get your hands on Zamorakian Warrior Packs—the bags that contain your scraps and salvage—you need to farm Black Knights. If you check the Interactive map on our site, you’ll see they are scattered around, but the route leading to the Grand Hall is one of the safest for casual players. It avoids the highly concentrated mob areas while still yielding a decent amount of loot.

Starting by the Wizard, proceed straight along the main path toward the Grand Hall. When you reach the top of the incline, take a left across the bridge. You need to be slightly careful here; there are Carnivorous Chinchompas in the area. If you draw their aggro, they will run at you and explode, which is just an unnecessary drain on your health.

Dealing with Knights and Snipers
Past the bridge is where the actual farming begins. As you proceed straight, you will encounter a knight and a sniper paired together. Combat here requires some basic stamina management. You have to be able to block the heavy swings from the knight while also absorbing or dodging the incoming arrows. My advice is to target the sniper first. They are relatively weak and go down fast, leaving you to deal with the knight one-on-one.

As always, bringing along a few Wardstones is highly recommended to replenish your armor mid-fight. It makes handling these dual-threat encounters much more forgiving until you actually manage to craft the new armor sets.

Navigating the Lever Gates
Once those two are down, head back down and to the right to find another isolated knight. Take him out, then pull the nearby lever to open the gates to the next section. The good news is that this lever stays open after your first interaction, so you won’t have to fiddle with it on subsequent runs.

Inside the gate, there is a fire with a couple of mobs. Sometimes only one spawns, but if you get the full spawn, clearing this area will leave you with about five Zamorakian Warrior Packs for this short loop. Opening these bags will give you a mix of Black Salvage Piles and Black Metal Scraps, though the scraps are noticeably rarer.

Crafting at the Blast Furnace
Once you have farmed enough bags, head back to your base to use the Blast Furnace. To smelt the bars, you will need your metal resources, plus coal and fuel pellets to run the furnace. The crafting time is fast, but the material cost varies depending on what you managed to loot.

- Using scraps requires 6 Black Metal Scraps and 3 coal per bar.
- Using salvage requires 9 Black Salvage Piles and 3 coal per bar.

Technically, the Black Metal Scrap recipe is the cheaper option in terms of volume, but because the drop rate is so low compared to the salvage piles, you will likely end up relying on the more expensive salvage recipe just to get your bars crafted in a reasonable amount of time.
