Subnautica 2 Early Access Roadmap: Updates & Co-Op Plans
Unknown Worlds has officially released the early access roadmap for Subnautica 2, outlining a schedule that prioritizes quality-of-life improvements in the first update and co-op additions in the second, while leaving room for larger expansions later down the line.

What Lies Ahead for Subnautica 2
What to Expect from the First Updates
According to the developer’s latest post, the updates will be categorized into three main types: smaller hotfixes, focused system improvements, and massive expansions that add biomes, tools, vehicles, and new story chapters.
The immediate focus for the dev team, however, is on the first major update, which will exclusively target quality-of-life adjustments. Honestly, this is exactly what an Early Access title needs right out of the gate. Having solid, bug-free inventory management and smooth base-building mechanics will be welcomed by everyone who plans to spend time playing Subnautica 2.

Co-Op Additions Coming Soon
The second scheduled update will shift focus toward the multiplayer side of the game. Unknown Worlds has confirmed that this update will address highly requested improvements and features specifically designed for those adventuring with friends. While I almost exclusively play solo to keep my underwater bases perfectly quiet and free from other players stealing my resources, I can see why the co-op community is eager for dedicated support so early in the cycle.

Community-Driven Development
The roadmap also places a heavy emphasis on community feedback. The developers have reiterated that player input will shape the game’s direction throughout the Early Access phase. If you have specific ideas or encounter annoying bugs, you can use the in-game feedback tool or head over to their Nolt page to upvote suggestions from other players. It is always refreshing to see a studio genuinely lean into community testing, rather than just using Early Access as a disguised marketing phase.

In the meantime, we can expect the usual background rollout of bug fixes, balance tuning, and optimization patches. For now, I think the plan looks solid, and I will be keeping a close eye on what specific quality-of-life changes make it into that first patch.
