Runescape Dragonwilds

You can complete the Rogue Trader quest in RuneScape: Dragonwilds by heading south into the desert to mine three Moonstones hidden beneath gypsum deposits and returning them to the camp. A lot of players seem to get stuck on this quest because they assume Moonstones are a random drop from standard mining nodes, but they are actually sitting in three fixed locations west of Alcarrid. This guide covers the exact pathing to grab all three stones in a single, short loop without wasting time.

Preparing for the Desert Route

Before you leave the camp, you need to make sure you have your pickaxe and the Windstep spell equipped on your action bar. You can use your regular mount for this trip since mounts work fine on the desert sand, but you have to watch out for quicksand. If you ride into quicksand, your mount slows down to a crawl just like it does when you try to ride through deep water. It is usually faster to just steer around the dark sand patches entirely.

First Moonstone: The Northern Cave

Leave the camp and head west toward the closest rock formation on your map. You will see a sealed cave entrance directly ahead. Use your pickaxe to break through the rocks blocking the door.

Once you step inside, a few standard enemies will spawn. It is best to just take them out immediately so they don’t interrupt your mining animations. With the room clear, walk over to the gypsum node on the floor and mine it. The node will shatter and leave the first Moonstone behind for you to pick up.

Second Moonstone: The Rock Platforms

Get back on your mount and continue directly south toward the next cluster of tall rock formations. You cannot just walk up to this one; you have to jump up and across the rock platforms.

Cast Windstep to launch yourself up onto the first lower rock shelf. Once you have your footing, cast Windstep a second time to jump across the open gap to the isolated pillar. The second gypsum deposit is resting right in the middle of this platform. Mine it, grab your second Moonstone, and carefully drop back down to the desert floor.

Third Moonstone: The Ruby Vine Cave

From the platforms, ride southwest toward a narrow canyon sitting between two sheer rock faces. As you approach the cave entrance on the right side, stop and unmount. There is a Wild Ruby Vine guarding the path.

I definitely recommend taking this vine out before trying to run past it. They deal a high amount of physical damage and apply a lingering fire dot that will quickly burn through your armor durability. Once the vine is dead, head into the cave, break the third gypsum node, and take the final Moonstone. While you are in this room, make sure to loot the nearby chest and grab some free adamantite ore.

Handing In the Quest

Ride back northeast to the Moon Garou camp to turn the items in. Handing over the three Moonstones completes the quest, rewarding you with a stack of Garou Chits and a helpful boost to your reputation with the Moon Garou tribe. It is a very simple errand run once you know where the caves are hidden.
