Grounded 2

If you’re looking to be the solid backbone of your team, soaking up damage while your friends focus on the heavy lifting, then this Tank Build for Grounded 2 is exactly what you need. A proper tank is invaluable for tackling the larger, more dangerous backyard creatures, allowing for a much smoother team experience.

We are going straight for threat generation and damage mitigation with this setup, making you the most appealing (and hardest to crack) target on the battlefield.

Armor: The Ladybug Set (Full)

The core of our tanking strategy is the Full Ladybug Armor Set. This choice isn’t just about good defense numbers; it’s about the unique utility it provides for a defender.

  • Why the Ladybug Set? The primary reason is the built-in Threat Generation bonus. This is key to maintaining enemy focus (aggro) on you and away from your less armored, damage-focused teammates. If the creature is hitting you, your friends are safe. Additionally, the armor set significantly reduces the stamina drain from blocked attacks. Since a tank is constantly raising a shield, conserving stamina is critical for maintaining your block and being able to counter-attack or reposition when necessary.

Weapons: Shield and Sustained Damage

A tank needs a reliable way to deflect incoming damage and a main weapon that keeps them in the fight.

Scarlet Aegis (Shield)

The Scarlet Aegis is the optimal choice for a tank shield.

  • This shield is highly dependable, offering full damage blocking, which is exactly what we want.
  • More importantly, it has an excellent ability for a team player: perfectly blocked attacks will heal friendly bugs near you. This small, passive healing gives your team’s support player a nice assist and improves overall battlefield sustainability. Plus, with the Ladybug armor’s reduced stamina drain on blocked attacks, your perfect blocks are even more efficient.

Mosquito Needle (Main Hand)

While a variety of one-handed weapons can fit, we’ve settled on the Mosquito Needle for its incredible sustain.

  • Why the Mosquito Needle? The main draw here is the Life Steal perk inherent to the weapon. While your teammates are worrying about maximizing damage output, you’ll be focusing on survival. The ability to passively restore your health with every hit you land means less reliance on consumable healing items and keeps you in the thick of the fight longer, maintaining that crucial enemy focus.

Accessories: Solidifying Threat

Study Shell Trinket

The Study Shell Trinket perfectly complements the Ladybug armor, doubling down on our core mechanics.

  • It provides a further increase to Threat, ensuring you are constantly the number one target for the backyard’s inhabitants.
  • As an added bonus for team play, the trinket reduces the amount of friendly fire damage your team receives. While not the main focus, it’s a nice safeguard for those chaotic moments in a fight.

Mutations: Defense and Durability

The mutations selected are aimed at maximizing your defensive capabilities and stamina management, which are the two pillars of this build.

  • Parry Master: Since blocking and parrying is your job, this mutation is a must. It rewards precision and further enhances your ability to deflect damage.
  • Cardio Fan: Stamina management is critical for a tank. This mutation improves your overall stamina efficiency, letting you block for longer and recover quickly so you can always have your guard up.
  • Blademaster: Given we’re using a slashing weapon (Mosquito Needle), this increases your sustained damage output and overall utility in a fight.
  • Fresh Defense: A great situational defense boost, particularly useful against certain common enemy damage types, increasing your overall resistances.

Consumables: Tanking Preparation

Proper preparation before a major fight is essential. These consumables will stack powerful, temporary buffs that significantly boost your effectiveness as a tank.

Smoothies

  • Lady in Red: This smoothie is a priority, as it gives a straight increase to your Max Health. More health means more margin for error and more time for your team to do their job.
  • Human Food Smoothie: Essential for any tank, this smoothie provides a bonus to your Damage Resistance, making every incoming hit less effective.

Meal

  • Mushcargot: This specific meal is a fantastic pre-fight boost for a tank. It activates Bargain Block, which is the ideal effect for a build focused on defense. It further reduces the amount of stamina drained by blocked attacks, turning you into an almost impenetrable wall for the duration of the buff.

With the Full Ladybug Armor Set pulling the aggro, the Scarlet Aegis keeping you protected, and the Mosquito Needle offering sustainable health, this Tank Build for Grounded 2 ensures you’re the most durable and reliable player on the field. Now, get out there and hold the line.
