Into the Abyss Questline Walkthrough in Grounded 2
To complete Grounded 2’s Into the Abyss questline, reach the Skunk Pond diving station, unlock all three suit pieces, and descend to find BURG.L’s body. The full route runs through Outpost 2’s three antennas and a robot-filled monitoring station before the final descent into the drained access corridor.
The team at MetaForge has tested this questline on the current build and mapped out every step below, from the gear you need before diving in to draining the final access corridor.
What You Need Before Starting Into the Abyss
Into the Abyss is Grounded 2‘s story questline, added in the 0.5 update that went live on August 11, 2026. Grounded 2 is currently in Steam Early Access, so the steps and requirements below reflect the game as it plays on this build.
You do not need any diving suit pieces to begin this quest, only the gear that lets you survive the swim to the diving station itself. A Gill Tube and Fin Flops are mandatory, since they let you breathe underwater and move faster while swimming.
- Gill Tube: Required to breathe underwater for the swim to the diving station and throughout the Abyss.
- Fin Flops: Required for faster swim speed, which matters over the long distances in this quest.
- Toe Biter Buggy: Not required, but strongly recommended once tamed, since it moves through water far faster than swimming.
- A weapon: Any weapon works for this opening section, since you will not need to fight anything before reaching the diving station.

How to Reach the Diving Station at Skunk Pond
The diving station entrance sits underwater on the far side of Skunk Pond, reached by swimming from the net at the pond’s edge. Follow this route to get there without wasting time on bugs you can outrun anyway.
- Start at the net: Head to the pole by the net at the edge of the pond and drop into the water before the net itself.
- Swim toward the green bench: Cross the pond toward the green bench visible on the far side, ignoring any bugs you pass, since you swim faster than they do.
- Find the pipe elbow: Once you spot the pipes below you, swim down to the elbow joint where they bend.
- Locate the entrance: Look left and down from the elbow to spot a Toe Biter, with the diving station entrance sitting just behind it.
- Climb up: Get off your buggy if you brought one and climb the ladder into the station. Sending the buggy home first is worth doing, since it will otherwise get attacked while you are inside.

How to Unlock the Diving Helmet
The Diving Station’s lab holds the first Aquatic Optical Disc, which unlocks the Diving Helmet for purchase at the Ranger station for 1,500 Raw Science. Getting there and back takes only a few short steps once you are through the entrance.
- Head into the lab: From the entrance, go through the corridor and down the next ladder, then continue straight into the lab.
- Grab the disc: Head to the trolley on the left side of the lab and pick up the Pond Aquatic Optical Disc.
- Answer the coms array: This triggers a conversation with Sloane, who warns you about how dangerous the descent is.
- Insert the disc: Use the Ranger station in the lab to insert the disc, which adds the Diving Helmet to the Science Shop for 1,500 Raw Science.

How to Complete Your Full Diving Suit
Exploring further into the lab and heading toward the Abyss entrance triggers the next story beat, which reveals that you need all three diving suit pieces, the Diving Helmet, Diving Suit Chestplate, and Diving Boots, equipped together before you can descend. Grab the note sitting on the bench nearby before you leave, since it is easy to miss once the objective updates.
The Bridge Aquatic Optical Disk unlocks the Diving Suit Chestplate, and the Gnarly Bark Aquatic Optical Disk unlocks the Diving Boots, each purchasable for 1,500 Raw Science once you load the matching disc into a Ranger station. Track down whichever of those two discs you are still missing before heading back, since the door into the Abyss will not open with an incomplete suit.
Once all three pieces are purchased and equipped, return to the diving station to unlock the door down into the Abyss.

How to Descend Into the Abyss
The drop from the diving station into the Abyss is long, taking real time to complete, though it doubles as a good look at the zone before you land. This is also your last chance to prepare before the harder content below.
- Weapon of choice: Bring whatever you are comfortable with, since this route avoids most optional fights.
- Harpoon Gun: Useful against the aquatic and robotic enemies you will meet further in.
- Bandages and smoothies: Pack healing items, since the monitoring station later in the quest has multiple back-to-back robot fights.
- A shield: Recommended specifically for the robot encounters later in the quest, since it blocks their ranged attacks.
- Toe Biter Buggy: Essential once you land, since the Abyss is large and moving on foot is slow.

How to Reach Outpost 2 and Activate the Three Antennas
Outpost 2 has a door that is locked behind a three-antenna puzzle, so your first stop after landing is exploring the immediate area before making the longer trip out. The route to the outpost itself varies depending on how much of the Abyss you explore along the way, so treat the points of interest we used during testing as landmarks rather than a strict path.
- Explore the landing area: The first station near your drop point has minor loot such as bandages and granola bars, and a command center further along holds a note and a shortcut door back up to the diving station.
- Travel to Outpost 2: Follow the cable through the gorge, or look for a beam and head toward it, using points of interest along the way as landmarks. The Abyss is dark, so keep an EverChar Torch equipped for the trip.
- Enter Outpost 2: Climb the ladder at the outpost and check the screen inside, which marks the location of all three antennas you need to activate.
- Activate the first antenna: Head toward the boxes just outside the outpost and hit the switch beside them. Activating it draws nearby robots, which you can safely ignore and continue past.
- Activate the second antenna: Follow the ramp and gap up the hill, using a sunken earring as a landmark, then loot the chest at the top and hit the switch beside it.
- Activate the third antenna: Follow the red beam from the second antenna’s location, using the sunken earring and a baseball cap as landmarks, then continue through the chains to the antenna site and hit its switch.
- Return to Outpost 2: Head back to the outpost, where all three antennas now show as active and the door unlocks.

The table below summarizes the landmarks for each antenna if you want a quick reference while playing.
| Antenna | Key landmark on route | What triggers it |
|---|---|---|
| First | Boxes just outside Outpost 2 | Switch beside the boxes; spawns nearby robots |
| Second | Sunken earring, then a ramp and gap up the hill | Switch beside the loot chest at the top |
| Third | Red beam from the second antenna, then a baseball cap and chains | Switch at the antenna site past the chains |
With all three antennas active and the door unlocked, buggy up and head for the cave beyond Outpost 2 to push on toward the Monitoring Station.

How to Reach and Clear the Monitoring Station
With Outpost 2’s door open, the next destination is the Monitoring Station, reached by buggy through a cave that opens into a wider area. Dagon, described in-game as the most dangerous creature encountered in the Abyss so far, patrols this open area, and we avoided it entirely rather than risk the fight.
- Cross the open area: Use the chain of blue vents to launch yourself across, aiming for a skeleton landmark partway through, then run along the top and take the next vent to reach the monitoring station entrance.
- Head inside: Dismount your buggy at the entrance and go through the doors into the station.
- Clear the first room: Fight the robots to the right of the entrance, then loot the body and grab the note on the table before moving on.
- Grab the tape: In the next room, pick up the tape from the desk on the left before heading through the left door.
- Clear the four-robot room: Fight these one at a time by baiting them back into the previous room, healing between engagements, then unlock the next door once they are down.
- Clear the following room: The same baiting strategy works here, and a nearby pole can help block ranged attacks while you fight.
- Continue upward: Grab the note on the table, then work your way up two ladders, defeating a robot along the way, before dropping down through a hole to the next section.
- Crawl through and clear the last room: Unlock the doors here first so you have an escape route, then defeat the robots before proceeding toward the access corridor.

How to Drain the Access Corridor and Complete the Questline
The last stretch of Into the Abyss requires draining a flooded corridor by turning three valves, with an optional Toe Biter Leviathan fight along the way for players chasing a specific upgrade material. Saving your game before this section is worth doing, so that you can reload if you mess up along the way.
- Enter the water: Head through the door past the Monitoring Station and down the corridor into the water, then jump down and call your buggy.
- Choose your approach to the Toe Biter Leviathan: You can fight it for a chance at Infused Ooze, the material used to craft the Omni-Axe Tier 4, or ignore it entirely and go straight for the valves.
- Turn the three valves: Use the vents around the cave to reach each valve in turn, being careful with your landing on the third jump, since missing it drops you onto the Toe Biter Leviathan and aggros it.
- Drain the corridor: Your buggy cannot follow you here, so dismount, use a vent to climb back up, then enter the door on your left and press the button to drain the corridor.
- Reach the end room: Head back out, turn left, then left again at the end of the room, and continue into the final chamber.
- Loot the access card: Search the body in the end room for an access card and a note.
- Open the final door: Return to the door you passed before entering the drained area, insert the access card, and go through to find BURG.L’s body, completing the Into the Abyss questline.

What Completing Into the Abyss Unlocks
Finishing this questline hands you the shortcut door at the first landing station, so future trips into the Abyss skip the long initial drop entirely. If you fought the Toe Biter Leviathan along the way, you can also put your Infused Ooze toward crafting the Omni-Axe Tier 4 before pushing further into Brookhollow Park’s underwater content.
With the diving suit fully unlocked and Outpost 2’s antennas active, you are also set up to explore the rest of the Abyss at your own pace, rather than following a fixed critical path.

FAQs
Is there a level or gear-tier requirement to start Into the Abyss in Grounded 2?
No. Into the Abyss in Grounded 2 has no character level or Omni-Tool tier requirement. The diving station’s door only checks that you have all three diving suit pieces, the Diving Helmet, Diving Suit Chestplate, and Diving Boots, equipped at once, regardless of your gear tier elsewhere.
Can you complete Into the Abyss solo in Grounded 2, or is co-op required?
Into the Abyss in Grounded 2 can be completed solo, and this walkthrough follows a solo run from the diving station to BURG.L’s body. A second player is not required at any point, though the monitoring station’s robot fights go faster with a partner to bait and heal.
What are the notes and tapes used for in Grounded 2’s Into the Abyss questline?
The notes and tapes found during Into the Abyss in Grounded 2 are lore items that flesh out the story behind the facility and its former staff. They are not used in any crafting recipe or objective, so skipping one will not block your progress through the questline.
Are there creatures or hazards in Grounded 2’s Abyss beyond what this Into the Abyss walkthrough covers?
Yes. The route in this Into the Abyss walkthrough is built to avoid optional fights wherever possible, including creatures like Dagon that are not required for the main objective. Exploring off this path exposes you to additional threats the direct route is designed to skip.
Do you keep your diving suit and Toe Biter Buggy after finishing Into the Abyss in Grounded 2?
Yes, both your purchased diving suit and any tamed Toe Biter Buggy remain yours once Into the Abyss ends in Grounded 2. Neither is consumed or removed on completion, so you can keep using them to explore the rest of the Abyss or return to earlier zones.
