Where to Find the Rime Rend Secret Weapon Optical Disk in Grounded 2
The Rime Rend secret weapon in Grounded 2 is found inside a Toe Biter den just outside the Gnarly Bark area of Brookhollow Park, not picked up from a standard Optical Disk cache. You will need to fight through the den and blow open a blocked rock before you can carry it out.
The team here at MetaForge has tested this cave on the current patch, part of the Into the Abyss update, and the walkthrough below covers the full route from the entrance to the crafting bench, plus which Toe Biter fights you actually need to win and which ones you can skip.
Where is the Rime Rend Cave Entrance
The Rime Rend cave entrance sits just outside the Gnarly Bark area of Brookhollow Park, next to the same tree line where you would climb up for the Gnarly Bark Aquatic Optical Disc. Look for a visible hole in the ground right beside that track rather than the tree itself.
The hole drops straight down into an ice-lined tunnel, and there is no separate entrance puzzle to solve here. Following the tunnel down is the only way in, so you cannot miss the path once you are standing at the right hole.

What to Bring Before You Dive In
The cave applies a constant chill effect on top of the Toe Biters themselves, so your loadout needs to cover damage, healing, and cold resistance at the same time. Pack the following before you head down.
- Weapon: Something with Spicy damage, since the Toe Biters guarding the cave take extra damage from it.
- Torch: Needed to see through the darker sections of the tunnel and helps with chill.
- Bandages and a shield: The shield matters most against the larger Toe Biter later on.
- Smoothies and food: Bring enough Beetle Bites and Blazin’ Brew to manage chill on the way down.
- Bratburst: Required to blow open the rock blocking the weapon’s chamber.
- Venom resistance: Stack a venom-resistant food or mutation, since the larger Toe Biter’s bite applies venom on top of the chill.
Armor choice is mostly flexible, but a Fuzzy Hat is worth the detour if you do not already have one. Its Chill Reduction trait stacks with Beetle Bites and Blazin’ Brew, so wear it alongside whichever chill food you bring rather than relying on food alone.
| Item | Where it’s made | Chill effect | Other notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Fuzzy Hat | Workbench | Passive Chill Reduction trait | Also carries Sizzle Reduction; 6.5 flat armor |
| Beetle Bites | Cookery Station | Chill Reduction while Well Fed | Counts as a meal, so it stacks with smoothies |
| Blazin’ Brew (Normal) | Smoothie Station | Chill Reduction for 120 seconds | Heals 40 HP on drink |
| Blazin’ Brew (Sticky) | Smoothie Station | Chill Reduction for 240 seconds | Same 40 HP heal, double duration |

How to Reach the Rime Rend Weapon
Once you are inside the tunnel, the path down is linear until you reach the first group of Toe Biters. If you want to confirm the route visually before heading down, the Grounded 2 Interactive Map marks Brookhollow Park’s dive sites, though its markers are estimates rather than exact coordinates. Follow these steps in order.
- Drop into the hole and follow the tunnel down without any side paths to worry about.
- Eat a chill-resistant food as soon as the chill meter starts climbing noticeably, which is roughly the point where the tunnel opens up.
- Continue forward until you reach the first open chamber, where two Toe Biter nymphs.
- Clear that chamber, then push on to the chamber holding the larger Toe Biter.
- Defeat the larger Toe Biter, then use a Bratburst on the cracked rock at the back of that chamber.
- Grab Rime Rend from the now-open chamber behind the rock, then head back the way you came. There are O.R.C Toe Biters in the chamber with Rime Rend, but you can run past them, grab it, and run out again. Alternatively, you can fight them both.

How to Beat the Toe Biters Guarding Rime Rend
The first chamber holds two Toe Biter nymphs and one full-grown Toe Biter, and fighting them one at a time is far safer than letting all three close in together. Bait a single nymph away from the group, jab it a few times, then back off and repeat until it is dead before moving on to the next.
A regular Toe Biter carries 1,925 HP and a stun threshold of 70, and its weak point is on its underside. It also resists both Fresh and Slashing damage by 50 percent, according to the current in-game bestiary entry for the Toe Biter, which is exactly why a Spicy weapon clears this fight faster than an ice-based one.
Example scenario:
If your chill meter is already past the halfway mark with a nymph still left to fight, drink a Blazin’ Brew before engaging rather than after. The healing and the chill reset both land before the nymph can push the meter any higher.
The larger Toe Biter in the chamber hits harder and applies venom, so switch from your torch to a shield for this fight. Watch your stamina closely, since running out mid-fight leaves you dazed while the Toe Biter is still attacking.
If venom lands: wait for it to wear off before healing, rather than healing through it, since the venom tick will otherwise eat most of the heal.

How to Claim the Weapon and Get Out
Blowing the rock open with a Bratburst reveals the final chamber, which holds two O.R.C. Toe Biters standing over the weapon itself. You do not need to fight them, since Rime Rend can be grabbed as a pickup and carried straight back out through the tunnel.
Example scenario:
If you hesitate between fighting and running and go down before reaching the weapon, that is not a lost run. Rime Rend stays in the chamber, so head back down and grab it on your next attempt.

Rime Rend Stats and How to Craft It
Picking up Rime Rend does not hand you a usable weapon on the spot. It has to be analyzed first, which unlocks the crafting recipe at the Forbidden Workbench rather than adding the weapon straight to your inventory.
| Damage | 58 |
| Damage type | Fresh |
| Attack speed | Slow |
| Critical chance | 3 percent |
| Stun | 1 |
| Range | 400 |
| Slot | Two-handed |
| Tier | 3 |
| Durability | 500 |
| Crafting materials | 1x Glacial Sting, 1x Suspicious Mint, 2x Gold Foil |
| Repair materials | 2x Mint Shards, 1x Gold Foil |
These figures come directly from Rime Rend’s in-game database entry, current as of patch 0.5.0.4. Its Chilling Attack and Critical Freezing traits make it strong against enemies that lack Fresh resistance, so save it for those targets rather than a rematch with the Toe Biters guarding it.

Ready to Put Rime Rend’s Frost Damage to Work
With Rime Rend analyzed at the Forbidden Workbench, craft it and take it to targets elsewhere in the pond and the Abyss that do not resist Fresh damage, rather than saving it for a Toe Biter rematch. Head back to Brookhollow Park’s deeper dive sites next, since that is where its Chilling Attack and Critical Freezing traits actually pay off as you keep progressing through Grounded 2.

Can you get Rime Rend in multiplayer without everyone diving together
Yes, since Rime Rend is a physical pickup rather than a per-player Optical Disk reward, only one person needs to reach the chamber and grab it. Every other player still has to analyze it individually at their own Forbidden Workbench before they can craft or equip a copy.
What happens if you run out of Bratbursts before reaching the rock
You cannot blow the rock open without one, so you will need to leave the cave, craft or buy another Bratburst, and make the return trip. Carrying two Bratbursts before you head down avoids this round trip entirely, since the rock blocking Rime Rend’s chamber has no alternative way through.
Does the chill effect from the cave stack with the Toe Biter’s own chill attacks
Yes, the cave’s ambient chill and the chill applied by Toe Biter bites both add to the same meter rather than tracking separately. This is why pairing a Fuzzy Hat with a chill-resistant food or smoothie matters more here than in most other underwater areas of Grounded 2.
Does Rime Rend work well against enemies outside the Toe Biter den
It depends on that specific enemy’s resistances, since Rime Rend’s Chilling Attack and Critical Freezing traits only help against targets that are not resistant to Fresh damage. Check a target’s resistances in the Grounded 2 Database before relying on it as your main weapon.
Can a Toe Biter Buggy get you to the cave any faster
No, since the Rime Rend cave entrance is a hole on land next to the Gnarly Bark tree line rather than a spot reached by water. A Toe Biter Buggy speeds up travel across the pond itself, but it will not shortcut the walk to this specific entrance.
